Steve D'G - any word from Guido on the changes (if any) that have been made on the E46 M3 vs. E36 design ?? I spoke with him yesterday and he still has no word on the ne M3. He sees the new 996 turbo on a regular basis and these parts will surely become a part of his kits. The 380mm rotors are now being used with the GT3/turbo monobloc calipers (instead of the GT2 endurance calipers) and the price dropped over $2000. I spent time with managers from Rotary lift 2 weeks ago to design a special lift for the new Ferrari cars (specifically the 360's). The Ferrari factory uses special cradles to lift the car up by the wheels so they have complete access to the lower panel (the column spread on the Italian 2 post lift is an incredible 5 meters so the doors can be opened with the car on the lift...these cars don't balance well on assymetric lifts). To engineer this type of system into their current lifts superstructure requires investment and they want to make sure the product can be sold to more than Ferrari's 30 US dealerships. It seems that BMW, Porsche and others are using these panels more and more because the wind tunnel testing says this is the way it must be. The Ferrari 360 spent over 5000 hrs in the wind tunnel and has more downforce (without spoilers) than a 355 Challenge car....the car is also an astounding 7' wide and will not fit into many garages. The $160k price and 2 year wait is the reason it won't fit in my garage. The only cherry '95 M3s that would go for much more then $26-27K will be those with little or no mileage. Not to say that the people are not asking for a lot more (and some smucks might be paying - see the Roundel adds). '95 M3's in good mechanical conditions but with more then 12-15K miles/year are selling for 22-23K. Except on the west coast, where the prices are 10-20% higher then in the rest of the country. 2. Expensive upgrades generally do not add to the resale price of the car. Again, see the Roundel nut case exception. Otherwise, you will never recoup the money spent on performance upgrades. I have called the Virginia State Police on this, and they confirmed my suspicions in that a Trooper Smith Wesson suspiciously noted an unusual blue-colored BMW speeding northbound on I-95 on or about 02/30/99 with a distinct "BAAAaaaaaaing"...noise coming from the car. When he attempted to pull up alongside for a closer look (seeing tufts of fur balls flying out the rear window), a head popped out belonging to a white male and a stream of slurs and obsenities where hurled in the direction of the police cruiser, spoken in a non-native dialect (could it have been Australian?). Trooper Wesson was going to attempt a stop, however the language used was so foul that it melted the ignition wires right off the Grand Marquis and he was forced to abandon the stop. I heard something to the same effect from some truck drivers on the CB. The only difference in their version is when this all happened. They said that a rather large individual was driving and a strange talking individual was doing the talking on 2/27/00 on I-95 northbound in Virginia. They did confirm the somewhat frightened BAAAAaaaaing sounds emanating from the back of the vehicle, but due the high speeds that the vehicle was going (plus the somewhat tinted windows), they did not get a great look. Support it there. When you're ready to get the rear subframe bushings out from the body to drop the subframe the best trick I know to break the corrosion that holds it all together is to remove the bottom of the rear seat, drop something suitable to use as a large punch onto the top of the bolt, and smack it hard with a heavy hammer. The shock should break the corrosion which firms up into a glassy surface inside the bushing mount. It's best if you've already loosened the nut and have some pressure down on the subframe.
