This is all very true, but results in a few weird side effects. I would argue that a CCA member owned bimmer has a better then average chance of receiving proper maintenance/care. Unfortunately, CCA members _selling_ cars locally also read the Roundel. And they read the classifieds. And in those classifieds they see all these tricked out cars going for an arm and a leg over the market price. And what do you think goes through these people minds? The ones that I saw all figured that since they did _not_ modify their M3s, they should ask for even more then what was asked for those "hacked" M3s in the Roundel... I went on my test drive tonight. Walked into the local Audi dealer . "Well hello there, May we help you ?" Yes you see that M3 out side.... "Yes" You see your S4 right there ? "Yes" Wheres the Keys? "Right Here!!" So They toss me the keys and said just dont wrap it around a pole. I drove around my town for a couple miles and learned the trans/clutch . (Feels like a honda!!!!) m3 wins there! I never knew what turbo lag really was... M3 wins there. Besides all the B/S they talk its a fast car with 15miles on it so far. I beat the piss out of this S4 !! I droped the clutch so many damn times i burnt it up, Redlined the shit out of it , brought the car up to 100mph on the parkway slammed the brakes a couple times untill the ABS came on . And finaly brought it threw a couple S-turns. Damn this car is smooth and fast .Brought it back to the dealer smelling like it just got its ass kicked and loved it. It Needs exhaust but shit its nice. I dont think it will beat a stock m3 ,only in the snow!!! Besides that the S4 is a great car that i will own in a month . I need the AWD and a needed chip and exhaust will be put on first thing! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2000 20:52:52 -0800 (PST) From: "Raymond M. Window is not used as much as driver's side, so I'm reluctant to think its a bad motor. Any leads? P.S. I'm considering getting the Kosei K1 racing wheels too. I'm having trouble with the power antenna on my 89 325i. It will not reliably extend when the stereo is turned on. It is not a problem with the stereo activating the antenna, because I can hear the antenna motor click when the stereo is powered on and off. It seems that the motor can't push the antenna up. 1 time in 20, it works. And it always retracts fully when it should. The antenna mast itself is only a few months old. I removed it yesterday, and it does not bind in any way. I can easily manually extend and retract the mast by pushing/pulling the toothed plastic cord. So, if it isn't a nasty stiff old mast, nor a problem energizing the white wire from the head unit to the motor box, what could it be? Any ideas? - -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] - home [EMAIL PROTECTED] - work ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Mar 2000 22:14:09 -0800 From: Scott D Miller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Golden Gate Chapter Autocross March 19 The Golden Gate Chapter's only preseason autocross will be held on Sunday, March 19 at the Marina Municipal Airport. It is open to all BMW CCA members (any chapter), and guests can attend one event for free before we make them join. Full information and directions are available at the GGC web site: www.ggc-bmw-cca.org Advance registration (on line, even!) gets you in for only $25. If you don't pay in advance, it will cost you $35 on the day of the event. Your $25 check (which you still have to send by snail mail) must be in Steve Albrecht's hands by Wednesday, March 15. This will allow us enough time to process all the paperwork before our admin people leave to teach at the March 18 Car Control Clinic (already full, I believe). As of yesterday there were 28 more registered than checks received. Don't lose your discount, send your check today. Heck, most modern BMWs remind you to write a check...check...check...check... It flashes in the middle of the dashboard every time you start the car. They change color when dipped in brake fluid. Like the acid/base litmus paper test we came across in grade school science class, the color indicates the extent to which corrosion inhibitors in the fluid have been depleted. Cost of Strip Dip is $46 for 100 strips from Phoenix Systems; Tel 888-749-7977; www.physyss.com. Perhaps someone else can comment on whether this test indicates what track guys really want to know -- the extent to which fluid boiling point has been degraded. I recall a post last year that indicated that an expensive tool (which actually boils a sample of brake fluid and measures the boiling point) was needed for the most accurate testing. Personally, I use ATE Super Blue and Type 2000 and bleed my brakes before every track event, plus a full fluid flush every 6-12 months. No financial interest, no clue how useful Strip Dip is to track junkies, just passing on the info.
