Although I have not seen the specific sender used in question, I doubt that BMW makes lots of different types. The one I have experienced is used in E28 cars. This sender is an oval cross section thin wall aluminum tube that is oriented vertically in the gas tank. Inside this tube, is a float with matching cross section and a pretty tight clearance between the OD of the float and the ID of the tube. There are holes in the tube that allow gasoline to flood the interior and thus the float registers tank level. I had similar problems and diagnosed them to grit in the gas that got into the tube and jammed between the float and tube, it thus inhibited the float from freely rising at a rapid rate as the tank was filled -- eventually over a period of perhaps 10-15 minutes, the float did work it's way to the top and the gas gauge needle followed. Wound up having to replace the sender (used) and then tried to disassemble the original. That's how 1) I found out what was causing sluggish response, and 2) how I broke the original beyond repair- but now I know how it is constructed :-) Harvey - I live with fear, death, and evil...but I used to be able to turn it off and use a Mac. (and maybe some laughter) I was so encouraged that in future runs I kept the car (nearly) under control and placed 1st in my class! I don't know if the offsets would work (what offsets are usable?) , but I do know they offer a number of different offsets for most of their wheels. A few of their wheels weigh in around 9lbs. The prices are quite high but if you're looking for some really light wheels....
