Otherwise, I may be getting way too involved with an issue of ticket falsification by the issuing officer. (Walking into court and calling a local cop a liar may not be the best thing to do, even if he is, considering that I have to live and drive in this town with my tinted windows and out of state vanity plates for the next several years. I don't need a whole police force to have a vendetta against me.) I have spoken with several Mass drivers who have received tickets in NY and faced no reprisal back home, but I don't know if it works that way for NY drivers in Mass. What's leaking is the short fuel line from the main fuel rail to your cold start injector - which is a MAJOR PITA to replace - but a MUST DO. If this leaks - guess where the fuel ends up? Right on the starter.. stop and start the engine - BOOM. It can be replaced without removing the throttle body.. you'll need a nutdriver to loosen the hose clamp (or a tiny 1/4" drive socket) and make absolutely certain to use FUEL INJECTION rated tubing (dealer stuff is good - auto parts stores DO have 100PSI rated stuff which is OK). Tightening the clamps may give temporary relief - but it WILL start leaking again. You should relieve the pressure in the fuel system before starting.. remove the fuel-pump fuse and then start the car. When it stops running the fuel pressure will be mostly relieved. Use a rag around the end when you first remove it to capture any remaining gas.. and then leave the rag outside in the open for a day (so the gas evaporates) before throwing it away.. BTDT..
