Boyce" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] BMW to sell Rover? Sorry if this is old news. BMW is considering selling Rover. It will announce its decision at a press conference next Thursday. Since announcing that it's debating either selling or outright closing Rover, BMW has been the subject of appeals from Tony Blair and other British MPs to save Rover. BMW is also defending itself against rumors that it's a potential takeover target. Still... This comes over concerns of BMW's low market capitalization making it an attractive target to mega-corps (namely GM). Talk of the sale sent BMW share prices up by 10% in Friday trading. Once again, you can enjoy the fruits of my labor on this truly marvelous vehicle. What started as a 2000 540i has now become a fully customized automatic M5. Stock, the car is equipped with Black leather, Xenon headlights, Rain-sensing wipers, 14-way sport seats, 5-speed Steptronic (clutchless manual) transmission, 3-setting heated seats, rear electronic sunshade, and park-distance control. M5 front and rear bumpers were added along with Zeemax side-skirts and rear spoiler (not pictured). Clear lenses replace the factory orange while the Xenon blue fog lights replace factory white. 18" Momo sport rims (8.5" front and 10" rear) wrapped with P-Zero tires were used. Eibach springs along with Sachs shocks lower the car while giving much improved handling where the limo tinted windows improve appearance. A Supersprint exhaust improves sound, but also added over 50 hp and 60 ft./lbs. of torque, giving it a total output of over 350 hp and 385 ft./lbs.! That's M5 speed with an automatic! What really makes this car amazing is the inside. All wood trim was replaced with carbon fibre. The Alpine CVA-1005 & DVD player (which also is a single disc CD player) along with miniature Kicker amplifiers in the console all encased in carbon fibre replace the stock head unit. There are 10 Dynaudio speakers in the vehicle (3-way kits up front and 2-ways in the rear). Behind the front armrest is an Alpine 6.5" monitor. Alpine's Dolby Digital processor provides true movie like sound for all viewers, while a 12 and 6 disc changer provide for many hours of listening. DVD will get you to and from anywhere in the U.S. without ever having to change discs, using either voice and/or visual commands. For bass, 2 Kicker XPL 10" subs were used in a custom enclosure in the trunk. The trunk is also where the 3 Amplifiers (all Kicker) are stored along with the 2 changers and the DVD navigation unit. Everything was custom installed to leave a clean, visually pleasing install. This car has had over $45,000 invested into it and is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Asking $100,000. That's M5 speed with an automatic! Dean comments on the above: What an exhaust system that car has! According the ad the exhaust alone adds over 50 hp and 60 ft./.lbs of torque. Next thing we will hear is that an electric hairdryer is force feeding the intake side adding another 75 HP! Ron: As far as I know, the Eta motors actually had a separate idle control module. So, there are two things than can go wrong: 1. Idle Control Module (ICM) 2. Idle Control Valve (ICV) When the ICM fails the Motronic (ECU) takes over and performs a classical on-off control strategy. Fuel on at 700 RPM (or so) and fuel off at 3000 RPM (or so) and the idle swings. You can replace the ICM with one of the green ones. I believe they are better than the grey ones! When the ICV fails, it does so in the intermittent manner you describe. It could be a change in the friction within the ICV that the controller cannot handle or a failure of some other mechanical characteristic. None of these would show up on the Bentley tests. The only solution is to replace the ICV. Alternatively, there are some cheap devices available via Roundel advertisers than you can get. They provide a fixed idle control setting from what I can tell. I've also heard of a penny with a hole drilled in it being used in the idle control valve circuit. Neil Deshpande 1988 325 iS 1989 325 iC *** 86 325 (eta) with adjustable ICV, cold start valve, and Auto tranny. Problem: Will not idle or low idle (engine stalls) when cold, but then idles too fast when warm ~1000rpm. The ICV adjustment is turned in 100% to "slow idle", but idle is still high when warm. The cold "stalling" problem only occurs when you shift from park into D or R. If the car is started when dead cold, it will start easily without touching accelerator and will idle without stalling...only stalls when put in gear. This stops happening after about 2 minutes as the engine temp increases. I have checked for VAC leaks and have found none. I recently adjusted the valves per BA specs. The ICV is working although maybe not properly. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 14:38:49 -0500 From: "Cagann, Alexander" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Valentine One Didn't Mike Valentine come speak for the BMW CCA chapter here in Indianapolis?...like, last year sometime. OK, like so many other folks, I think the choice of gauges in the M Coupe is a little screwy. Oil temp is good. Volts and Clock? What were they thinking. So, I'd like to add an oil pressure gauge. Does anyone have a pointer to a gauge that will match, and can use the chrome bezel? I think these are VDO Vision series gauges, but can I assemble a Vision OPG into the BMW bezel?
