WSJ online just sent me a "newsflash" saying BMW is selling the Land Rover
Division to Ford for billions. Interesting development.

No doubt countless eastern Europeans are calling Josh right now.
Personally, I find it rather disturbing.

Subject: [uuc] Wheel vibration with spacers

Hi everyone,

I got a new set of shoes for my car today (no more snows!) which required me
to use 5mm H&R spacers up front. (I put 245/40-17 BFG G-force KDs on
factory 8.5" wheels all around.) The tire shop I used is a very reputable
one (which is held in high esteem by some on this list) and I watched them
balance all of the wheels with a brand-new, computerized balancer.

At about 60 miles an hour, I get a vibration which seems to be coming from
the front wheels. Both the tire shop and a few very helpful listmembers
warned me that with the spacers, there may not be enough hub to ensure that
the wheels are properly centered and that this may cause some vibration.

The wheels are true, and I'm pretty certain they're balanced correctly, too.

Other than springing for $300 Dinan hub extenders, is there any way I might
be able to lessen or eliminate this vibration?

Thanks!

Dave

I ended up with a collection of cars tonight and all I really wanted
was the Isettas. Anybody interested in a fairly complete BMW 600 limo
(no sunroof)?

The track is FAST and easy to drive as long as you follow the

Jack up the front and measure the wheel runout and tire tread runout with a
dial indicator. That will tell you if things are true. Were the tires
match mounted to the wheels? There is a dot on the side of the tire that
marks the high point of the first harmonic of the radial force variation.
This should be placed at the low point of the wheel runout. Of course, good
wheels will have only a few thousandths runout so it won't matter, but check
it anyway.

Subject: [uuc] Wiring a Nady intercom into a helmet

I just bought one of the cheap Nady mics and want to install it into my helmet.
The reason for the Nady is it seems most instructors use them so to make
things easier, I'll bring my intercom as a backup and to make things more
comfortable for me, I'd like to have the mic semi-permentantly installed in
my helmet.

I bought the mic that does not have the boom part. So all it is is a mic
and earphone. I have a closed helmet.

Any suggestions for securing the mic and earphone to the interior of the
helmet?
And how can I run the wires? Along the very bottom? Along the bottom
portion of the eye opening?

I'm hoping someone here could steer me towards some information on
cleaning the suede leather parts of my suede-cloth m/3 seats.

I've found info on theregular leather but nothing on the suede. Maybe
someone knows something about it on the ol board.

Subject: [uuc] <E30/E28?>Anyone willing to let me borrow a JimC chip for an eta?

I've been considering getting "sharked", despite the premium gas price hike.
Is there anyone on the list that would let me borrow a JimC/TMS chip for an
87 eta? I'd like to do a test run with it before spending the money.
Anyone near central or northeastern Indiana willing to get together some
weekend, or maybe a weekday evening? I suppose if someone could mail me a
spare one, I could try it out and send it back to you, or maybe buy it if
you were selling, depending on the test run. In any case, I want to find
out what all this sharking's about.. Will it make my eta perform anywhere
near an i? Is the performance boost worth the cost (chip itself + increased
gas cost) for someone only doing "spirited" daily driving?
