Does the insurance co's give discounts for them? Well wish me luck and would now like to venture into upgrades if anyone can make the top 5 things to do first.......new territory this m3. It generally happens at speed when one wheel hits a pronounced bump. An oscillation of the steering wheel begins which sometimes last a second or two, and other times, it gets stronger and requires nearly bringing the car to a halt to get it to stop. The car has been lowered an inch or so and has Bilstein sport shocks. Both tie rods and the center link are new. Has anyone had this problem and if so, have you found the fix for it? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Mar 2000 22:42:14 -0500 From: "Mark A. Selleck" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Light delay, 1984 533i Robert, my delay recently began malfunctioning, and, after trying to trace the problem(relay, etc.)we found that it is in the contact switching in the door handle: if I pull up FIRMLY on the handle, the delay is activated, but if I open the door gently, it doesn't make the required contact. Try this, otherwise it is probably a relay, which, in my '85, is under the floor on the driver's side. Mark Selleck At 06:49 PM 3/18/00 -0500, you wrote: > Last year I purchased a 1984 533i. In my search for scenic roads and the road less traveled, I found the coolest stretch. Leeds Manor Road (Route 688). It starts at Route 211 near Waterloo which is West of Warrenton and goes North to Route 17. It passes Naked Mountain Winery. It's perfect for a brisk, spirited drive. Just use extra caution through the few small towns. Pavement is good, lots of wide open twistys and elevation changes. Some loose gravel just to make things interesting. ...steven 3rd Annual Mid-Atlantic ti fest http://www.318ti.org/ti-fest2000 all are welcomed. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Mar 2000 23:45:47 -0500 From: "JEFFREY L BECHT" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Idiot light question for a 7 series A friend of mine has a 1992 735IL and has a question. Recently, his idiot light panel started flashing "Trailer Light" but all of his lights both inside and out seem to work just fine. He took his vehicle to the dealership this week but, according to him, they don't really have a clue. He does not have any kind of rear trailer hitch. I've never heard of this kind of warning light before but maybe it's an exclusive with a 7 series(I've only had different types in the 3 series). Possibly Duane or someone else with a 7 knows what this is all about. What causes the light to go on? How do you fix it and how much if a reliable dealer does the work? Maybe if it's really nothing to worry about then how do you disconnect to stop that bell and blinking? If someone did I might have missed it. The car: 1998 318ti. I have 20K miles and 6 driving schools on a set of Panther pads . The rear pads are shot. I have a little life on the fronts. Plus my front rotors are toast. The rotors are vented. The rears wore out much quicker than the front. I had my rear subframe assembly replaced last year. Could there be a problem with the brake tubes [not the flexible lines] or whatever you call them? I have a date with the dealer on Thursday. Is there any diagnostic test they could do? ...steven ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 19:39:45 -0800 From: "v1rotate" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] HP22 Auto question...E34 I just bought a 89 535I with 118K miles in very good condition. I understand now that I may have the "problem" automatic. The 4 speed with the 3 position slide switch. I have read up on the revving in neutral thing, and that the consensus is that I will be lucky to get past 130K miles before it fails one way or the other. It shifts perfectly now, doesn't bang 2nd, doesn't creep in neutral. I have also read much hearsay regarding weather I should switch to synthetic ATF or not. My question is, with the1989 E34, do I in fact have the shakey auto? What can I do to delay the inevitable, besides obviously being nice to it I don't drive it hard, or much higher RPM shifting, I'm pretty easy on it) Should I use synthetic? Do I have the LSD final drive? Should I use synthetic in it? (Too slippery in some opinions) I hope it doesn't grenade before I finish paying it off! Thanks Dan 86 535I ( selling it ) 87 K100RS ( keeping it ) 89 535I ( worried about it ) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2000 01:42:01 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] RE:Garage Floor Paint - FYI ! Our business is Athletic Courts/Floors, all types... indoor/outdoor, so I'm quite familiar with the type of surfacing you are talking about. We use both Epoxy AND Acrylic Latex products on concrete. Both work quite well, as long as the procedure is done correctly and climate/temperature requirements are met. Most important is the surface preparation!!!! I've got a drawer full of material specifications, info ect... so anyone wanting additional info or contacts can e-mail me directly and I'll do what I can to help. I appreciate all the "helpful hints" I've received from this list. One possible contact for Acylic Latex material is NOVA Sports USA - our supplier is L&M Distribution in San Rafael,CA (800) 772-4078. The owner's name is Larry Brink. OR Hawker Manufacturing,Inc. out of M*sa,AZ (800) 621-2574 "Gus" is my contact. For Epoxy - Try-Martin Surfacing,Inc. out of Hunt Valley MD (410)584-7667 You may need a contractors license to purchase from these guys. ?? Hope this is usefull ! Land Rover already makes a 4WD with a frugal motor: the Freelander (don't know if it's sold in the US). It can be had with a 100-120 hp diesel or petrol motor. While this is all very righteous, the main complaint people have is - you guessed it - a lack of power. Also as you'd expect it has power everything but things go wrong and it weighs too much. L-R pioneered the Hill Descent Control mechanism, though, which BMW thought useful enough to put in the X5. I wonder what will happen to the licence for that? Bit of a dead horse this one. As many surmised, the sale of L-R was to make up for BMW assuming Rover's debts on disposal. Reasons from the business pages of several newspapers: a 152m Government aid package applied for last June by BMW has been put on hold pending an EU investigation [the EU didn't believe BMW would carry out its threat to move manufacturing to Hungary in the event the aid wasn't granted - AT]. The strength of the pound has dented BMW's profits; when BMW bought Rover the pound was worth DM2.80. It now stands at DM3.15, and with each pfennig increase, BMW loses another 8m [US$13m]. The replacement for the long-in-the-tooth Rover 25 and 45 (small and mid-size hatches) was to be called R30, developed entirely in-house. Furthermore the Rover 45 was developed in conjunction with Honda when Rover was 80% owned by BAe; it's not a Honda with Rover badges on it despite what the uninformed public thinks. The R25 and R75 having nothing to do with Honda. Finally, there is a manual available in the Jaguar line-up: the S-type 3.0 V6 has it as standard, though perhaps not in the US. Armed with this information, bugging your dealer may be the only way to get the importer to consider buying them. THe market for one is probably bigger than they think.
