Prob.? I went to check my power steering fluid level today (it was low, added Dexron ATF) and I saw 2 strange pieces of rubber sitting on a ledge below the power steering fluid reservoir. I have an 87 325 (eta) with about 165k on it, and to my knowledge it's never had any heavy engine work done, like engine mount replacement. I got the steering rack replaced a few months ago, since the old one was leaking through a boot, so could these pieces have anything to do with that? I took a couple pics showing location and a more detailed view. Here's a link (64k jpg) : http://gunter.gunter.com/personal/rubberpieces.jpg (the fluid around them is me being sloppy with the ATF, I wiped up as much as I could, but I didn't have a funnel) Anyone know what these are, and should I worry?? Power washing should be kept to a minimum. You don't want to drive that dirt and salt into bad places. Use a gentle spray overall and only power wash the areas you can see and don't aim at seals, etc. I have a cheap power washer and it does fine for car cleaning. The high pressure (3000 psi) types are way too strong for a car. Good for concrete, though. Code ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ WBA -- BMW-AG, Munich WBS -- BMW Motorsport Gmbh, Munich and so on. there is no way in hell (i think) a Motorsport vehicle (even preproduction) would be VINned as a regular car. so if the WBS is there - ok, otherwise tell the dealer he could sell that car as an M5 convertible for all you care.. :-) Dragos 93 535i ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2000 10:44:29 -0800 (PST) From: "I.L. Eberhart" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] 98 pre-production M3 has a 328ic Ahmad, Sometimes those Germans have their German briefs on too tight and they do in fact put the wrong VIN number on pre-production cars. The only way to really tell if it's an M3 is to do an over-rev. You will have to take the car out and shift from 3rd gear into 2nd while accelerating. You must insure that the RPMs go to at least 8,000. Only a real ///M car could survive this. If the car suddenly looses power, or you see stuff flying through the hood, don't buy the car. If it still runs like new, you've found yourself the ONLY '98 pre-production M3 in existance. These cars have only been rumored to have existed. The last known siting was by the Australian Marine Corp. Just as they saw it, they took pictures and then found themselves in the Bermuda Triangle. Upon exiting the triangle, all of their film had been exposed and was useless. Hope this helps. - - Chip '98 Limited Edition, Pre-Production, Compact M5. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! At a risk of lots of griping about cost, I would like opinion on where best to source conversion of my car to at least M-3 low end grunt (don't need autobahn top end increases...just wanna outrun jealous pickups with guns and obnoxious tail huggers). Though the cost of buying an M3 convert may come down with next years model, there has to be a few purists who can provide "shop and drop" 1. engine, 2, lighting and 3. suspension upgrades, coordinating the best of used or wrecked car parts..numbered in order I'd throw money at. I know the M stuff isn't at Home Depot, but I am sick of all the aftermarket stuff for suspension or engines which have unintended and usually obnoxious side effects. Clearly Hartge and Alpina are too chicken/stiff to license here..only everywhere else, it seems. So no need or interest in 340hp E46, just any suggestion on who to try for drop in parts (and any residual value of my engine used for labor?).
