I saw a similar event, on I-84 w/b on Exit 67 -- right where the state criminal court is and two exits away from the State Police barracks (I was on my way in to fight a ticket -- lost). I passed three state police cruisers, each travelling solo, but with four people inside. I thought that they were making some big busts for speeding or something. There was an unmarked SUV on the painted fork between the offramp and the highway, sitting perpendicular to the traffic flow, flanked by two cruisers. This definitely caught my attention (no radar/laser detector at the time) and as I approached, everything made sense. The front window was closed, but the rear window was halfway down with a laser gun sitting on the edge of the window, pointed toward traffic as they crested the hill. It seems that they were doing training for the new recruits and they were being instructed on proper traffic stops and the use of lidar. Very interesting to observe a cruiser with four people inside jet by you at 90+ mph. Chaz Daniels, Jason S writes: > > Listers, > > I'll say that more municipalities are getting the laser guns. They're high quality replacement faces to give you white (or colored) racing-style clusters. They do not fit M3's or Eta cars. I'm not sure if they will work with 318i models (not sure if tachometers have same markings) so it's up to you to buy them or not. Either way, they WILL fit on the cars. Your clusters plug in the same way they always have, these do not affect readings or connections - only appearance. I need to get at least 10 people to order faces before I'll get the shipment ordered. Why? Because it ends up saving you money (shipping is cheaper). Prices are as follows: White faces: $100 plus shipping from me after they're imported. I'm in Kingsport, TN (37660). Colored faces: $105 plus all the same stuff. Red blue and yellow are available now with a short wait on cream and silver. Email me ASAP if you're interested. Exactly his point, He was an old school cop, the nice neighborhood guy that talked to everyone (Andy G in Mayberry?) And he REFUSED to write tickets! (but he likes Krispy Kremes) Well that is an exaggeration, he did, but just not a lot. When I was small he was the chief of police, and I don't know how many times people dropped buy with gifts,( in the days before that was illegal) To say thanks for letting them go for their "indiscretion " while driving.~~~~~all over the road. He hung up the gun in 92' Because of the attitude of the younger crowd of cops. And the attitude issue. He suggested that they all spend their time on useful things like, Bicycle Safety, and Neighborhood Watch, or Stranger Danger. Not harassing innocent civilians for speeding. Needless to say that isn't to thrilling for the new guys. And their laser toys. I STILL got stopped all the time, so anybody that thinks that a cop for a dad got you off you were way wrong! Maybe it had something to do with autocrossing around the mall parking lot after they closed!?! My track car was FWD and the Mercury did mimic its characteristics so that was no problem, although H-rated tires don't perform too well on the limit ;). I had them pumped up to about 52psi before they would stop rolling over! By the end of the weekend, there was no tread left on the shoulders and the exhaust had a funny rattle at WOT. But I returned the car with no problems and never heard anything from the rental agency. I was talking to a couple of the students and although rental cars were not common, they were not unheard of either. I want to use *my* car so I can improve *my* skills and learn the limits of *my* car, not some rental's. Maybe a better choice would be to bring the car into BMW for service and ask for a loaner for the weekend. I honestly was not that impressed, they listed my 84' 533i as a 528e (and no, I have the original dealer invoice showing 533i) and no records at all after 1995. maybe there's a 'Lag' time for Carfax to show new activity but the car has been registered at least four times and smogged at least twice -none of this showed up on their report. I've also ran two Porsche's and another BMW that also came back with incomplete information. All of these cars are/were registered in California. I don't know if this is a California DMV problem or a Carfax problem. YMMV!
