The User programmability "feature" is available on newer V1's
with software versions 2.68 or greater.

Yikes, your old metal-case Passport only gets X-band and K-band, and
it *will not* detect Ka. If you're driving the California Freeways then
you're definitely missing a lot of Ka hits ! Getting snagged with CHP
Ka-Band several years ago was the reason i replaced my original
Passport with a newer Passport 4500 Superwide. The old Passport
didn't make a peep as the Chippy seared my testicles with direct blast
of undetected Ka :-|

I wouldn't use that old Passport anymore if you drive in Calif and
Nevada. Ka use is on the rise in California, and i've been hit with
Ka in Nevada when i was there a few years ago. Time to upgrade :-)

As for turning off X-band, i have the official factory procedures for
modifying the V1's programming saved as a Wordpad.doc file if
anyone would like a copy. Or i could paste it in the body of an
email message if the .doc file won't work for you.

Oh crap, could timing belt pieces really show up in places like that?! I
thought the timing belt was completely internal.

Subject: [uuc] Introduction

Hello one and all,

I've replied to 2 posts so far but just realised that I've neglected to
introduce myself to the denizens of this mailing list.

I'm from Singapore and have a Euro-spec '99 BMW 328i Steptronic. I've
brought it to the track 3 times since I bought it last July and have yet to
be disappointed with the handling of this car, which compared to my previous
track car is fantastic. Of course, when your fellow track mates are zipping
around in WRX type Rs and Evo VIs, you always feel underpowered, but I've
always comforted myself in being able to enjoy the track in the luxurious
comfort of my Bimmer.

I studied in Indiana till the end of '98 where I dabbled in autocrossing and
attended many driving schools with my '95 VW GTI VR6. As such, I have a
little track experience and some of the related aspects of tuning your car
for it. However this is my first Bimmer and I'll probably need lots of help
as I discover new things about my new car. So please be patient :)

Thanks,

Eugene Oh
