This is, in my opinion, worse than squeal. Within limits the tighter the fit, as long as the pad can still move with the pistion, the better. Squeal is a complex phenomenon and caused by different things so I cannot give you a universal solution. Squeal is most often explained as an 'unfortunate' resonant vibration of several brake components at one frequency. The pad probably sets it off and the rotor and caliper even will line up and kind of feed off each other. Since you cannot affect the rotor, the most common lines of attack are concentrated on the pad. You could try the following: 1. Give the pads/rotors time to bed to each other. This should reduce it, both in occurrence and amplitude. 2. Bevel the leading and trailing edges of the pads. This will make them 'catch' less on the rotor. The bevels will wear off in time though. 3. Cut a slit in the center of the pad. This will break up the mode shape of vibration. 4. Use one of those anti-squeal shim kits from Performance Products, etc. They might make the pedal more squishy though. Neil Deshpande 1988 325 iS 1989 325 iC *** I'm pretty sure its from the back brakes. new PBR Metal Master pads on new ATE rotors. The only thing I noticed is that the rear pads are VERY tight on the calipers. I had to tap them on with the back of a screwdriver and a rubber mallet. I'm wondering if trimming the tabs so they aren't so tight would help.. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 11:03:20 -0500 From: "Milliet, Ron P." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] <FS> Serious AutoX Race Car FOR SALE A friend of mine is selling his race car.
