CMP is a great track. It is very challenging and fun with each section having different personalities. CMP is very hard on brakes, however. You will want to make sure you have good pads (maybe some spares--I went nearly went through a sent of PF90s in a 3 day event) and that the fluid is fresh-ATE Super Blue is relatively cheap and performs well. So, I've been doing the Land Cruiser about once a year instead of every other month like it should be done. And the 740 is only getting a coat every 6 months or so. Forget that Zymol Destiny Ultra-$$$ wax.....who has a ten hours to primp a car with that stuff? Not me....I don't care how much it shines. Recreational Time is too valuable these days.....so my cars n' trucks are lookin' a little more mainstream than Ultra-Enthusiast. I've not time nor patience to Wash the car, CLEAN the paint, and then WAX it. That all changed today. I got a new toy last winter that I just pulled out today. The Porter-Cable Random Orbital Polisher. This thing will change the whole way you look at doing your car. I bought mine off the 'Net after reading about it one too many times in Griot's Garages catalog. Was able to pick it up for about $ 80 less that Griot's price, too. I did, however, order the machine polishes from Griot's as a matter of convenience more than anything else. Lemmeee tell you, this is the magic bullet if you're pressed for time like I am, or if you don't want to spend all day on the car. I did the Sled today in about 40 minutes, start to finish. And it does a beautiful job with absolutely no swirl marks or burns that I can see on an Aspen Silver car (black cars can be tough though...be forewarned). You apply the polish with the Porter Cable unit, and then wipe the residue off with a towel, easy as pie. This Polisher has a clutch in it, variable speed, and with the orbiting action you can be a klutz and not mess up your paint. It de-clutches at a very low pressure, so you can't "lay into" it like you can many other polishers (Too much pressure is the leading cause of burns and swirls). I'm 100% pleased with it, and for about $ 125.00, its certainly not too expensive. Leaves a buffed shine, smooth as silk. Worth a look. Bye-Bye Zymol....hello Machine Polish. - - Duane Collie The Seven Sled ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 10:19:56 -0800 From: Steve Albrecht <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] NCC Car o' the Month Steven Schlossman replied: >$hit, it's like pulling teeth to get people to submit their pictures to the >NCC magazine. I had to use a jeweler's screw driver to turn the screw since it was so small. Remember, my radio was not for a BMW, but I am told that most radios have this tuning screw. Take the radio out and look for it. It should be somewhere on the chassis. If this doesn't work, then check the antenna ground. My 91 318is is still not running right. The car will sometimes run perfectly fine and the next minute it will idle anywhere from 800 to 1150rpms. I have replaced all of the vacuum lines, new intake gaskets, new fuel pump, new fuel pressure regulator, new oxygen sensor, and a new spark plugs. I was using bosch platinum 4's and BMW technical said I should just use regular bosch plugs. I did just that and it ran fine for a day and then went back to normal. I have also done compression tests on every cylinder and they all turn out fine. So now I'm stuck so any suggestions or remedies would be greatly appreciate it. They are better than the OEM BMW mats I have in my 325. Granted mine are several years old. However, they appear to be made very similar to the mats that Bavarian is selling. They have a thicker thread for the heal area on the drivers mat. Kirk can get either foam backed (like OEM) or a rubberized backing, kind of like undercoating, if that makes sense. He didn't have any of the rubberized on hand but he says they are better than the foam. One suggestion that he made and I have to agree, if you have tan, pearl beige, whatever beige interior with the black dash and door parts, get black mats. I put them in my car and they look much better than the tan mats. You just can't match the carpeting real well due to age, fading and dirt. Also, black won't show the dirt as well. So, if you want to change to black let me know. You won't be disappointed. He's going to check on the availability of the multi-color ///M. I'll let those of you that want it know whether it's available. Most likely the embroidery is one color only. If anyone other than the 8 people that have contacted me are interested in floor mats for $79 for a set of four, plus shipping, let me know as soon as you can. I will try to finalize the order and details with Kirk next week. You will need to contact Kirk directly with payment and shipping address but I will let you know details on that.
