Subject: [uuc] <all> Cell phones for the car

While I was at the dealers today to pick up a few items, I noticed a brosure
that said they have a wire harness that attaches to a digital Motorola cell
phone. Of course, the cell phone had "BMW" on it, but it's basically the same
as my 7760 (or something like that), no?

Anyone know if this harness will work with my phone? Also, how does the cell
phone feature work in a E36? Does it lower the radio and stuff?

TIA,
Chester

The Firebird was stealthy because there are few surfaces perpendicular to
the ground. For radar, especially the longer wavelengths that pass through
plastic, the radiator is a major reflector. The Firebird radiator is angled
up which reflects the radar up, not back to the source.

All you have to do is mount a large piece of wire mesh, 1/4 inch will do, in
front of the car at an angle, say 15 to 20 degrees, 45 degrees is better.
You can claim its a colossal air dam. Make sure your detector antenna is in
front of this.

Imagine being in a black room with a flashlight and trying to find a mirror.
You have to be looking straight at it otherwise its invisible.

Also, if you noticed, on all recent bmws,
the antenna is in the (rear) window.

Mike,
You are neglecting the usual suspect - Idle Control Valve.
ICV rarely goes totally dead. It goes intermittent first and is a royal PITA
to track down. A used one will run you $50 from Roundel advertising junk
yards.
Also, if you can get your car to run 'rough' for a while and register a
check engine light, that might help with future diagnosis.

William,
Two comments:
1. Forget about KBB. It's retail prices are bordering unreasonably high
(rivaled only by Roundel adds).
Try www.nada.com (right on the money) or www.edmunds.com (a bit on the
low side - good for you, the buyer). I would print out Edmunds car
evaluations ($8,655/11,240 wholesale/retail + $2K mileage adjustment) and
try to impress the seller with your preparation.
2. I believe '93 318 still has the M42 engine with the profile gasket that
falls apart and dumps all coolant after about 60K miles. Although low miles
would normally be a good thing, in this case make doubly sure that this car
had its profile gasket replaced. If not, deduct $1+K from the lowest price
assuming you are willing to go through the profile gasket repair experience.

Ditto for my 7/94 325i...
:( Sure wish it did though.

Do ANY 1994-models have key-closing sunroof at all?
Windows, sure. Sunroof no.

I've none this forever. I don't like the interference. I want to remove the
metallic tint, and not have this noise. It even messes up my signal to my AM
radio. I can't listen to talk radio. FM is fine. I may not have it
replaced. I'm debating upon it. I do know that the metallic interferes with
with the antenna.

Do yourself a favor and spent $14,000-$14-500 on a similar 325. The six is
worth it, and never pay KBB prices, subtract at least 1500. the dealer
does not buy cars at that wholesale price listed in the book either, they
buy at the dealer black book price. usually about 2-3K less than the KBB
wholesale price. THIS BOOK IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. You need
to hold a dealer license to get a subscription.

Jason Daniels (former car guy...)Many a car cheap at the auction...

ahem...
"Beginning with vehicles produced 9/93 (MY 1994), the central locking system
was integrated with sunroof and window closure into the Central Body

Quoth the REAL owner's manual, aka Robert Bentley. Guess there are errors
