I broke the long bolt that goes through the oil filter cap through and into the oil housing and most of the threaded portion of the bolt is stuck inside the housing. How can I get it out?? I don't know how I broke it. I just tried taking it out to do an oil change and it broke. Is there any easy way of taking it out?? By looking at the housing and my manual it looks like I will have to remove the whole casting. Does anyone know of another way of retracting the part of the bolt that is stuck inside without having to remove the whole dam thing? From what I can tell I will have to remove the alternator to get to some of the bolts that are on the side and it looks lie a big job. If there is no other way of doing this can you guys give me some tips on what I need to do. I have already removed the air filter housing and the sensor. I also removed one of the pulleys that is screwed into the same casting where the oil filter goes. (That's one big ass casting!) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Looks like I'll be having to take the taxi to work for a few days. :-( Manuel Paredes 95 325i (crippled!) L.A. CNNfn: BMW to become part of Ford's Premier Automotive Group I don't know much about the Rover unloading last week, except that BMW AG hemorrhaged money and former chairman Pischetsreider and Wolfgang Reitzle got booted for their efforts... As I understand it, didn't BMW vehemently deny the sale of Rover before promptly ditching it? Can it be that the Quandt family is running the same "deny, then just go ahead and do it" play this time around? Despite public declarations to the contrary, the ruling Quandt family is now ready to accept a 'strategic' alliance with the U.S. giant. The Daily Mail understands that the Germans would relinquish ownership of Rolls-Royce and the Mini to rivals Volkswagen, leaving the hard core of BMW to tie up with Ford. News of the proposed deal comes days after BMW paid venture capital company Alchemy around 2billion to take loss-making Rover off its hands, whilst simultaneously selling off Land-Rover to Ford for 1.8billion. BMW is valued at about 10billion roughly the amount Ford has left in its war chest for takeovers. Security surrounding the planned Ford-BMW deal is so tight that key personnel have signed legally-binding 'secrecy clauses'. BMW has consistently dismissed reports it is up for sale just as it denied to the Government that it was about to offload Rover. Ford boss Jac Nasser has made no secret of the company's desire to bring BMW into the 'family'. BMW would sit comfortably with Ford's recently-formed Premier Automotive Group which already includes Aston Martin, Jaguar, Volvo and now Land Rover. Intriguingly, the PAG is run by ex-BMW deputy Dr Wolfgang Reitzle, ousted in a boardroom coup last year. Ford has tried to dampen speculation by saying it 'respects the Quandt family's view that BMW is not for sale'. But a well-placed legal source within BMW declared: 'The Quandt family have already agreed in principle that BMW will be sold by October this year to Ford. It's already a done deal. 'Lawyers have been instructed to prepare papers. Teams have been working on it for weeks under intense secrecy.' Initially a 'co- operation' deal could be announced perhaps with Ford taking a stake in BMW while the Germans are given a smaller one in Ford. The American giant has already switched its European headquarters from Britain to Germany which could make a takeover of the Bavarian carmaker more palatable to Germans. It is understood that Volkswagen may have agreed to stand aside and let Ford have a clear run at BMW in return for getting its hands on both Rolls-Royce and Mini marques. That would allow Rolls-Royce and Bentley to be reunited under the ownership of VW, which already owns the factory in Crewe but can only build Rolls for another two years. Under an existing deal which saw the Germans carve up Britain's automotive 'crown jewels', Rolls-Royce production would otherwise transfer to BMW in January 2003. It is argued that Ford would be prepared for the Mini to go to Volkswagen as the 'price' of winning the bigger BMW prize. The Ford deal would have severe implications for the remaining BMW- owned ex-Rover plants at Cowley,Oxford, which employs 3,500 and is earmarked to build the new Mini and continue production of the Rover 75; and at the Hams Hall engine factory, Warwickshire, which is under construction and has a planned workforce of 1,500 from next year. With 25 per cent over-capacity in the European car industry, it would also add to the argument for ending production at Ford's Dagenham plant with the loss of up to 8,500 jobs.
