Guys,
Even on that website it lists the car type as: "WilliamsF1 BMW FW22." I
don't think it matters how much money BMW spent, they're still only the
engine supplier, which always gets listed second (if at all). It's been
like this for as long as I remember. So, unless BMW wants to spend
enough money to actually buy the Williams team I think they'll always be
listed second.
Just my '02 cents,
Robert
BTW, congratulations to the Williams/BMW team for a great start to the
season!

The AH rim contour BMW uses must be broken down at the valve stem. BMW has
issued tech bulletins on this issue. The tires come on and off from the
front.

And the answer is... TRUE!!! With a few exceptions, which vary
state-to-state- such as DUI and Domestic Violence- a PO cannot issue a
citation unless he actually observes the non-felony offense. Note
however, that I have had several Reckless Driving cases in my court
where the prosecuting witness is a civilian who saw the alleged
infraction and went down to the County Attorney and swore out a
complaint. Though it usually ends up being someone PO'd about a
neighbor's kid squealing tires and such.

Alex,

It depends on the state.

Here in the great Commonwealth of Virginia, you - as an outraged John Q.
Citizen - can go swear out a complaint against Billy Bob Reckless to the
local Magistrate and in effect, make an arrest if the police decide your
story has even a whisper of merit when they review it. The cops will then
have Billy Bob come to the station for an interview and 'arrest' him,
usually releasing him on his own recognizance and a summons to appear in
court. The State's Attorney does the prosecuting of the case, with John Q.
as the star witness.

Now, John Q. has to be able to identify (pick out) the arresstee in court,
and the police WILL issue John Q. a subpoena to appear (just in case he
wanted to make a vengence play and then dissapear on the court date).

But yes, it's doable in VA. Other states will vary. So its wise to be
careful of who you cut off as you speed on by in my part of the world!

the thing to do is to replace the plastic impeller'd waterpump if it has not

Don't know a thing about the powerful M-ach 5, might suggest you contact
Alpina at least for reviews on the B6, etc, and weight penalty. Keep in
mind that certain parts of the Euro 3 series they swap into have lighter
fiberglass or aluminium parts, or so I am told...
If you do go ahead with your swap, please post me, as I would be
interested in putting the M-3 motor and tranny in my E36 convertible. I
haven't the slightest clue how to do it, so if your mechanic becomes
doubly flexible (including price, for which yours undoubtedly will be
the most flattering..maybe he can work on my car when he gets p.o'd at
your project!). John
P.S, Glad somebody else out there realizes displacement upgrading kicks

Digesters:

So, I got 3,000 miles on the new-to-me '95 M3, and of
course I wanted to swap synth for dino juice. I had
topped up to the upper mark for a day at the track
already (wu-who!) so I expected to get 7ish quarts out
in the deal, right?

Wrong! (and hotly so!) I drained easily 8 quarts,
judging from the 6 quart container I overflowed, another
quart and a half container quickly pulled over, and a
puddle of approximately 28" diameter . . . oops. So
I refilled with 6 quarts; no oil on stick. Add another,
*no* *oil* *on* *stick*. Add another (8 now, for those
of us with fingers not pushing keys or mice) and the oil
level just touches the tip of the dipstick.

So, what's up with this? Bentley says 6, my owner's manual
says 6. My geezermobile 540i takes 8, *not* the sveldt M3!

Any wisdom (or wit) welcome. ;~)

I took this thing out of my 325is this weekend, and I don't need it.
It is from Cellular One, and works with any Profile series or flip phone
(but not that itty bitty startac thing).
It is the delux unit, complete with a microphone, speaker, and the
little window-mount, spiral pimp antenna.
Make an offer, or tell me what you have to trade for it (it doesn't have
to be car stuff).
Good trade ideas include, but are not limited to:
control arms, (for the 325is)
E30 M3 springs, (for the 325is)
ModelMotoring. Aurora, A/FX and/or TYCO H.O. scale slot track and/or
cars. (for my basement)

the latter, it seems excessive

No Gleb...it is done for the entire series. This has been Porsche's test

cars for the series, not each one coming off the production line. That
would be excessive. SD

Shiv,

Regarding Dinan's "custom bushing", it's no different than what you'll
get from Steve Haygood or Steve D'G (a 750 bushing turned down).

Regarding Mr. Dinan's shop's technical capabilities and quality of work,
I can say I know a number of people who could relate less than stellar
results from their work.

Like many businesses, Mr. Dinan has some people who are very sharp, and
some that aren't. If you're lucky, and have an interesting performance
project, the sharp ones will work on your car... but that may not be the
case in the more mundane work orders. That's just life. :^)

Like any larger shop, it will pay to get aligned with a good service
writer. When the occasion arises for me to avail myself of Dinan's
products, I always talk to Jeff Hecox.

BTW, I have found Steve Dinan personally friendly and great to talk to
at the track; he has a wealth of knowledge about the tracks I run here
in NorCal, and shares it quite willingly - to a point, I'm sure! :^)

Good luck,
- -jerry

Don't forget that the Audi A8 is an aluminum structure, though admittedly
it's a pricey piece of hardware. The Lincoln LS, which is cut to a tighter
budget than anything BMW does, uses aluminum front fenders, hood, etc.
though nothing structural.

Oh, admittedly they'll have to leave the power widgets and two-dozen

like a Honda S2000.

Saab's inline-fours started as a Triumph back in 1969, but have been redone
a number of times since - by the mid '70s they had little in common with
the Triumph pieces, as of '81 *nothing* in common, and they've been redone
at least twice more since then.

It rather surprised me to see, when in Germany in '98 doing Euro delivery
on our 540i, an imposing number of A-class cabs.

Subject: [uuc] 750 Thrust Arm Bushings

You don't need to spend a lot of money on these for your E28 or E24 car.
Pick up a pair of fluid filled 750i bushings (the green ones made by Boge)
and take the center down equally on both sides so it fits perfectly in your
subframe. I use a 20hp Leadwell lathe but you can use a few hand tools
around the shop. Now machine a few mm off the steel casing equally on both
sides so this will not contact the subframe with side deflection of the
arm.

If your thrust arms are in very good shape except for the bushing, you can
simply replace the bushings...on the car with an OTC7249 or you can
carefully remove the old arms with the proper ball joint press (you dont
want to damage the ball joint side) and 5-10 tons with your shop press and
proper sized arbor.

I personally would rather replace the thrust arms with new Lemforder/oe
components at this time. This way you can use a bit more force and a
separator fork to muscle the old ones out. Pick up a new set of arms from
your favorite parts supplier and press in your newly machined bushings. Be
careful using a shop vice and big socket in lieu of a press and
arbor....you may break the handle off the vice or puncture the bushing
(remember, these are fluid filled) with a poor fitting socket. SD (PS-
these bushings work great in E32/E34 cars without the machining)
