I'm hard on the eclipse's tail and when I show my signal he launches his pass. I am again right on his tail (i know, you don't do that but what the <beep>). He makes his pass and i continue in my quest to pass him. And guess what - the <beep> <beep> keeps accelerating and doesn't let me pass. I keep flooring it and finally i manage to build enough speed to pass him - i think i was doing 90+ at the moment. In the distance, there was a car showing up - quite far away. End of story. >> A friend related a similar story to me. He was following a slow car in his BMW and passed on a yellow line. Car speeds up, he speeds up, passes and takes off at high speed. Other car follows and friend does additional stupid stuff. Trooper appears, pulls him over, other car pulls up and guess what? He's a trooper too and he has a cellphone. Many bad charges requiring a lawyer, much money, court costs, loss of license etc. I'm listening to my friend relate all this and thinking "What a complete idiot you were. You're lucky no one was killed." Just like Dragos did. What was also sad was this guy was knowledgeable about driving schools and was a middle-aged adult. I only hope we all learn something from these stories. Here in California, any on duty officer can pull you over regardless of their jurisdiction. However, after pulling you over they then have to call another cop (who has jurisdiction for that area) to show up and issue the citation. So, let's say some LAPD pulls you over on the 405 freeway. The LAPD would have to call up the California Highway Patrol (Ponch and John from CHiPS) who would then show up to issue the actual citation. This is obviously a big pain in the *ss so they don't typically do it unless you are doing something grossly illegal.... I've seen it happen though. Here in the city of Irvine, the Irvine PD pull people over on the freeway quite often. The moral of this story is: Whenever you see a cop car, slow down no matter who they are... Park Ranger, INS, Fish and Game.... whatever. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eurowerks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2000 5:55 AM Subject: Re: [uuc] You be the Cop > Be very careful doing this sort of thing....when you do appear in court, the > perpetrator has the opportunity to find out who you are, and then all sorts of > fun things could potentially happen. My experience is a bit different, but it was five years ago, so something may have changed. I was issued a ticket on Angeles Crest Highway by a park ranger. He wrote the citation without waiting for anyone else. Maybe he could do this because we were in a national park? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 10:16:18 -0500 (EST) From: Moe Drippins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Re: Speeding, Valentine & Ignorance Part Dux [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > He was following a slow car in his BMW and passed on a yellow line. > Car speeds up... I hate to get on a cop rant, since so many others here can do it better than I can, but... While what your friend did was indeed not smart, what was the point of the trooper (in the slow car) speeding up? To teach him a lesson? To assuage his bruised ego? To show your buddy how powerful he was? This sounds like a spoiled 3 year old's behavior to me. I don't know if I met Steve or not. I think he was at O'Fest '96 here in Ole Virginny, and at the very least some of his crew were. People seem to think he has time and interest for every little problem - problems they themselves can't be bothered with. Consider Steve an enthusiast who's trying to make some money to support a rather large habit for cars. If you've got something interesting he'll likely be interested. If you're trying to buddy up to him to get a discount and he doesn't like you, well, guess who the jerk is. He's put a lot of time and energy into making some of these options. Yeah, they buy other folks' stuff and rebadge it. So do many tuners. He spends some time matching components so you get good combinations of stuff. They've been doing it long enough to get a sort of cult following and that's good for them as it lets them charge a little more and still have plenty of business. Don't want to pay more? Fine, do your own research (don't just steal his work) and find another shop. If you got something from them and it doesn't work as advertised either reread the ad or if you have and it doesn't match up talk to them politely. My bet is they'll try to work with you. He's one of the good guys and depending on what you are looking to purchase, will always try to take care of his customers. Bimmers R Us is an authorized Dinan dealer. His telephone number is (314) 772-9800. I have been one of Greg's customers during the past 5 years and highly recommend him. BTW, Gateway Tech 2000 was a lot of fun. Seeing the Z8 and getting to sit in it was awesome. I was amazed to see the coolest gadget that Jim C. presented. It looks like a small handheld, computer gadget that allows you to flash your JC software yourself and save the stock software onto a chip located inside the gadget. Very cool. I you want that shove in the back, you picked the wrong car. Only forced induction will really help there. And final drives are fine if you have a track car. Trust me you don't want to do that because the 600-900 gain in RPM's at highway speed may not seem like a lot, but after an hours it is. Your gas milage will also go down and you will be right in that 5000 plus thing you don't want a lot faster.
