Not sure what I have to do with the price of tea in China, but for what it's
worth, I recommended the guy let the mechanic do the work. If Kirk is
referring to my advice that the owner make sure the mechanic knows what they
are doing, I guess that goes without saying...but you really can't take
something like that for granted. I've been burnt by "specialty" shops that
say they know what they are doing, when they really didn't.

FWIW, When I had my struts replaced the book indicated the job should take 3
hours. Based on that, this mechanic was charging $56/hr. A pretty good
rate for CA.

Ken Mitchell says that what he calls the "flying saucer" wheels are made by
Fuchs. I haven't ever seen another reference to this, proving or
disproving. Besides BBS, who else makes BMW's wheels? If these were made
by Fuchs, were they forged?

By the way. If you're as to what those wheels look like on an e28, take a
gander at

http://www.powerbear.com/der2.htm

and see what you think. Personally, I really like them. They add to the
clean look of the car. But damn, getting the brake dust out of those
little vents is a gold plated B**ch!

well ken, when i was sitting back in the M3's nice leather sport seats i
never really cared much about whether the filter oil had dead animals in
it. nope, just enjoyed the supple feel of the dead animal skin on the
seats and the roar of the motor as it burnt the dead dinosaurs we call
gasoline.

Phil,

Vinyl was available in all the years that they produced the touring. I have
personaly seen one from every year. Maybe it was a more common option in
the midwest? And my touring 3/01/93 production date has the premium
package, the dual roofs, keyless entry, and HAD the EDC all from the
factory.I have the window sticker.

In regard to purchasing you own parts and asking
your mechanic to install them...

the last time showed up at a diner carrying a carton of
eggs and asked them to
cook them for me , they declined.

The wagon gets the 328i brakes.

Subject: [uuc] E36 rear trailing arm bushings R/R

Anyone replace the rear trailing arm bushings on your E36 as a DIY yet? On
the rear suspension, these are the leading bushing(s) that allows the "z"
link(s) to pivot vertically. It is mounted in a recess in the body and held
in place with three fasteners.

I believe the alternatives are to R/R "on the car" by dropping the arm (by
removing the three bolts), pressing out the old bushing and pressing in the
new with a some sort of bolt and washer set up, or completely remove the
arm and take it somewhere. I'd like to try the "on the car" method.

I'm looking for any tips from anyone whose done this at home. How hard was
this? Any special tools, tricks, etc.?

Thanks for any info,
Rob

Geez people. Ken was only making a statement of fact. He wasn't trying to
create a boycott of K&N. He didn't issue a call-to-arms. He didn't even
slam K&N (other than the guy he talked to on the phone, who sounded like
some sort of mindless clone anyway. We've all dealt with those). It
sounded to me like he thought is was simply a curious fact.

Man. Some of you are a bit to quick to flame.

Many people suggested safety-wiring my half-shaft bolts (on the P-car). Can
someone explain how to do this? Through which part of the bolts do I drill
the hole? A picture would be VERY helpful.

Thanks in advance,

And people wonder why insurance rates are so high on certain bimmers? The
roadsters, and the coupes just got added to my insurance carriers "baddy"
list due to the high collision loss rate.
