I'd love to give them a tip to make it easier, the last time they swapped my street/track tires it took over 2.5 hours! Part of that time was wasted because they put a 225/45 on a rear 8.5 wheel, but at least they don't scratch 'em. Bad analogy frequently propagated by some mechanics (regardless of their aptitude). Goes into the same bin as dealers chastising folks for bargaining on the new car prices while we rarely bargain in the grocery store. Both comparisons have a common fault: eggs cost 10?c each. Cars and their components cost between a bundle and a small fortune. One would be perceived as a lunatic trying to save a few pennies by bringing eggs to a restaurant. And will be treated as such. One would frequently taken advantage off when not comparison shopping on big ticket items. alex f sick of _some_ wrenches justifying their rip-off parts pricing as a birth right ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 17:10:50 -0500 From: "Ken Ross" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [uuc] RE: BMW: Garages etc. (was selling your soul) I think the secret here is presentation. If you can put the bike in a corner and display it nicely, the wife may not mind so much. Perhaps you can purchase or build sometime of platform that would elevate the bike about 6-8 inches off the floor. This will highlight the bike and give the appearance that the bike just isn't being stored, but displayed. I would also purchase some Ducati related items (e.g. pictures, ads, etc) and hang them on the wall near the Ducati. A nice dark wood wall paneling would be nice, but is by no means necessary. Presentation is everything. I was thinking I didn't request any brochure how come I got a package from them. After I open the package, it was a BMW Williams F1 T-shirt. It has Williams logo and BMW.William F1 Team text on it. On the back it says, "It is a fast world...". It was so cool. The letter included with the t-shirt was about that I register for BMW F1 club on the net, and since the club will not be start until April. So, they send me this t-shirt for being patient with them. (it is not April yet, for those who havn't registered, go register your name on <http://www.bmw.williamsf1.com>, go under club and register to be a member. man, the t-shirt was cool. also, this is my last piece of my suspension that I have left. It is Eibach pro spring. part #: 2033.140. I only have 7000mile on it. It is in box and ready to ship. It fits E36 323, 325, 328 sedan and coupe. It will lower the car about 1 inch from stock suspension. I would like to sale it for $120 plus shipping from Ann Arbor, MI. thanks for the bandwidth. I'm having a local shop perform a valve adjustment for me. They have proven (at least to me) to be very competent, judging by the P-car race cars they prepare, various VW's, Volvos, and Audi's they service but have high prices. They do very little M engine work but a valve adjustment isn't rocket science so I'm bringing my own gaskets and the tappet depressor (my own not so cheap eggs), they have the shims. For this they're charging me their normal BMW labor, providing me with a free A*di rental car, and will only charge a couple of hours. Seems fair to me, and they've already fed me for free once and performed a free tech inspection for our entire club once. On the other hand another shop that services lots of local E30 M3's has a cocky owner, wouldn't provide a quote since all 16 valves may need new shims (according to him), basically called me stupid (which may be true) but that tends to piss me off and will likely never touch my car. What the hell was my point? Who knows. Great service wins over reputation with me, bring your eggs. - -Carlos on anti-allergenics, achuuuuu... damn pollen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Mar 2000 13:06:28 -0800 (PST) From: Matthew Shaw <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Do you really want Xenon lights?
