Randy Randy, Why not simply pay the ticket and be done with it? Will cost you 1/4 what the lawyer will charge you. It's not a serious ticket at 15 mph over, and it sounds like the cop had you dead to rights. If he wanted to be a giant prick, he would have stuck you at the 82 mph in which case you'd have a misdemeanor Reckless Driving Charge on you and then you'd have to appear in court with said attorney on a criminal charge. That one should cost you about $ 100.00 and you'll be done with it. Your state may not even pick up on the VA ticket, depending on where you live. If Virginia doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with your state, your insurance company will never hear of it. You can even ignore the ticket if there's none - just don't get caught again in VA for the next seven years or so! - - Duane C., veteran of VA traffic tickets The Sled ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 22:02:59 -0500 From: Stephen Jones <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Legend of BMW Motorsports on Speedvision Thu night - Friday morning Flipping around and found a great 1/2 hour show on Speedvision - looks to be a few years old, but neat racing footage of the M3 and the F1 development Comes on again Friday morning at 1:30am Steve Jones Steve Jones 1990 750iL "Stella" Peachtree Chapter BMWCCA #164681 pics at http://conundrumcomputing.com/bimmer.htm mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 19:19:46 -0800 (PST) From: David Moore <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] e34 Radiator leak Greetings once again, Quick question for those in the e34 know: I have a leak toward the very top of my radiator within the seam just about 1" to the right of the upper hose connection. Having not taken the whole mess apart, I'm assuming so far that I need a new radiator. When I buy a new radiator....what does this include...all the metal...and plastic end pieces (the leak seems to be coming from the seam where the plastic and metal meet). Does it also include the expansion tank on the left side? But other than the pic there's no further information. The image caption says it's an Alpha Prestige Series "M30" model, but when i saved the image the filename indicates it might really be called the "M5s" model instead: http://www.customwheel.com/alpha_index.html or http://www.customwheel.com/wheelpix/trpix/alpha_m5s_m.jpg Their phone number is (800) 406-8948; call em and tell them how you saw a 4-lug version of this M5s wheel in the Schneller website photo and see if it is indeed available in 4-lug. I once saw one other picture floating around the web of a red 4-lug E30 with these same wheels and i noticed how much they looked like the early M5 wheel, but it was definitely a 4-lug version on that car and appeared to be 16" or 17" in diameter. If i didn't already have more wheels than i need i'd be inquiring about a set myself - they look as good on an E30 as they do on an M5 :-) Randy Walters 89 325is L.A. & S.D. Well, if you want to see rust on an E36, come on over to my house. Rusted muffler (the mounts rusted through and caused the muffler to hit the ground and drag while I was driving on the interstate), rusted trunk pan that had to be repaired when the battery just about fell through (that caused by PO not attending to the battery vents tube), and general rust all over the bottom of the car that makes anything down there a bitch to unscrew for the first time. Ohh by the way, I live in Texas (but the car lived it's first 5 years in Ohio). Just goes to show that anything can rust if not cared for properly. Ken 1992 318i 105k - -----Original Message----- It's just occurred to me that I've never seen a E36 with any rust on it, despite some of the oldest ones now approaching 10 years of age. So I don't think you've got any problems to worry about there. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2000 02:04:54 -0500 From: "Gary Derian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] NE Ohio - Local Tire Installer (Cross Posted) Rich, Muller Tire has mounted my M5 tires. She has had some service issues with the GTI and is skeptical about buying another used car (tho not much new really appeals to her, but that's another story), but I think I can convince her if I lay out the financial picture for her & she can get a relatively low mileage '98 or '99. part of my rationale for getting a used car is that she can offset the potential cost of out of warranty repairs by setting aside a certain amount of money each month to put into a maintenance fund. this money could then be raided as appropriate for upgrades to the car. monthly out of pocket costs would be similar to the low end of the new cars that she is interested in & the ti should be lots more fun... things I need to know : any problem areas with '98 or '99 318ti's ?? As the model is pretty mature in terms of time in the market I would assume that most of the bugs have been ironed out.... what are the advantages of the '99 over the '98 ?? I know the '99 was much lower production, had ///M steering wheel & a few other unique items, what else ?? once the car is out of warranty, what sort of on-going upkeep costs are going to be involved ?? what is an Inspection I or II going to run ?? how long should brake pads last with primarily highway/city driving ?? what sort of mileage do they return in mostly highway driving ?? any belts & such need regular changing (outside of what would be done on normal inspection schedules) ?? any issues that will come up quickly with somewhat high usage ?? She drives ~25,00 miles a year. Where is the 318ti digest ?? does it have archives ?? Good web sites for further information ?? (Other than Ron Sytgar's which may have everything you ever wanted - have not looked into it too deeply.) What should she expect to pay for a '98 or '99 with low (less than 20,000) miles ?? anyone know of a car for sale that fits these specs in the general midwest area ?? car must be : black, silver or blue (maybe dark green if not tan interior) black or gray interior (she dislikes tan generally) manual trans only sunroof - regular mandatory, California roof preferred anyone have a nice 6 cyl conversion around that they want to get rid of ?? I think Ben L sold the 332tii, but I recall someone else having a 328ti somewhere. not sure I can talk her into one, but it might be fun...
