I've got a 90 325ic that won't start. Engine turnsover almost goes ...but,
nothing. I've checked fuel pump, air flow sensors, the works. I'm still
baffled. I had this problem once before. After pulling the fuel pump fuse,
turning the engine until it caught and replacing the fuse Iwas on my way. No
luck this time. Any suggestions?

Ron, you did the right thing by being honest. He already cut you a break by
giving you a "failure to obey sign" 3 ptr. vs. a "speeding 10-19 mph" 4
ptr., even with the tint ticket.

I have 3 '20 over' tickets IN a probation period, the first plea bargained
to defective speedometer, the second cop reduced to defective exhaust for me
being VERY honest(I was speeding x, I am totally at fault, etc), and the
pending third (in the track car, where ya going speed racer ;-) also cop
reduced to failure to obey highway sign. Will work that down with the DA
also. :-) The old "don't lie, but don't admit anything and keep silent"
never worked, so I decided to be totally honest these times and hey, it
worked a lot better that way.

Harvey:

That was as bad as saying "only yuppies drive BMWs". Maybe the guy drove
an econobox for the last 15 years and saved his money for his dream.
Maybe he didn't want a police package Caprice or Crown Victoria to drive
while off-duty. Even with the police discount (similar to the BMW
loyalty program) he just might want to enjoy a pleasurable car and
forget about work for a while. Freedom of choice is not a new concept.

Some Snap-on sockets in the spare tire well and like you some amps
(ancient ones) under the front seats. That reminds me I have to go
take those out.

Best.. have to think about that a bit. Strangest? Used bullet and
some brain tissue. Got a real good deal on the car BTW..

Another weird one:

I had an '84 633 CSI. Best I can tell from the service records and
title search, the car never left the San Diego area after being sold new
in '84.

But when I took the seats out and installed a new stereo, I found a '91
German Mark coin under the front passenger seat carpeting.

So the car was imported into the USA in '84 and sometime after that
somebody saw fit to pull out the right front seat, lift the carpet and
place a 1 DM coin under there in '91 or later. None of the repair
records speak to anything that should have required removing the seat or
lifting the carpet.

Back in 95' working for a Toyota dealer in Northern IL we got a used car in
trade that had among other things, About 15 gallons of spolied milk, I mean
it was GREEN and fuzzy in there. You could smell the car comming 50ft away!
Needless to say the guy got $50 for the car and the scrap yard got a call
NOW! In a brief phone call with him he had bought it for a function in the
winter and had forgotten about it. He said he was on vacation for 6 mos.
(jail we figure) And when he returned, well guess what.

Kyle, I think perhaps they're confusing "autocrossing", a relatively
harmless and safe sport, with either motocrossing, which involves
motorcycles going handlebar-to-handlebar, or demolition derby, which
involves people with a lot less sense than most of us bashing into each
others' cars until there is only one left running.

As an autocross organizer of dubious qualification, I can tell you that:

1. Safety comes first. Yes, they make you wear a helmet. That is more
to satisfy insurance requirements than to do anything for your head.
Although there have been a very few freak roll-overs at autocrosses,
99.9999% of the cars keep the shiny side up. Properly designed courses
have no obstacles to hit, except for those pesky orange cones.
Autocrosses are safer than driving on public roads.

2. Yes, there is a little more wear on some parts of the car. Like
tires. You'll use up tires faster than street driving, at least if you
drive like most of us. You'll rev to red line a couple of times, maybe
bounce off the rev limiter. No big deal. You may wear out rubber parts
in the suspension and driveline a little faster. But, if you're already
having your car inspected per the factory schedule, you'll catch the
worn parts before they become a problem. It is harder on your car than
NOT autocrossing, but not that much.

There are instructional autocross videos available which you could buy
(don't ask me where) which, besides helping you, would show your
concerned "loved ones" that there is nothing to worry about.

Happy autocrossing,

Scott Miller

Subject: [uuc] RE: z3 coupe question

in response to the problems with the car, I have not had any problems
described by your friend, in the past year the only problems I've had is that
one time the computer shut down and the car would not start (this could
happen on any car) and the other problem is the same thing with all other E36
cars, the fuel gauge did not work. right now I am in the process of getting
the fan switch for the A/C replaced as the air wont shut off when on the)
setting. Now for your other question. Is the coupe a good daily driver? I
love the coupe, it's a lot of fun. I would tell your mother to get the
standard 16" wheels as they are a much softer ride (however they do not look
nearly as good) and get much better mileage out of the tires. I notice an
average of 29 mpg on the Highway on cruise at 60mph, on the other hand if
you're aggressive you'll get 17 mpg. all in all its a great car that still
gets starred at wherever it goes.

Fun thread! My mind isn't giving me any great things I've found but my
current race car was a mess when I got it.

I can't figure out what happened but the passenger side apparently spent a
lot of time virtually afloat in soda and coffee. When I pulled out the
carpet it had soaked through in some spots. It was brown and crusty over
most of the surface including under the seats. There was a ready supply of
chicken bones under the seats, several dollars in coins, and enough dog hair
in the car to build a large fluffy Saint Bernard and have some left over.
It choked my vacuum. (Sears. Shop Vac.) I have this visual of some
slovenly owner hauling around his fluffy dogs and slurping sodas until they
didn't suit him then tossing them on the passenger floor.

Somehow the seats survived pretty well (right Phil?) and cleaned up great.

From: "Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: [uuc] E30 M3 CD-ROM Repair Manual Update.

If you have my CD already, please read on.

If you don't, well...... Why not? ;-)

The E30 M3 manual has gone through 3 versions already, Version 1.0 (no
number on disc), V2.0 and V2.01 (both have these V numbers on disc).

The changes between any of these three were tiny, minor navigation and bug
fixes, so no update was offered, or even announced.

However, now we have V2.5.

A while ago, I asked the list for feedback on the manual.

I got 23 replies. Only one was totally negative, the rest liked/loved it
but......

Most common complaint? Not enough photos.

V2.5 has over 200 new (different) photos. (many of the photos appear on
multiple pages, this is not counted). Plus over 200 of the original photos
have been replaced with better quality versions.

To give an example, the R&I cylinder head page on V2.01 has 6 photos and
prints out on three pages.
V2.5, R&I cylinder head, has 51 photos and prints to THIRTEEN pages !

2nd most common complaint, difficult to understand.

V2.5 has had many procedures re-written in simpler terms. This, along with
additional photos, makes many of the procedures much easier to follow.

Also, many of the procedures have been rearranged to make the job faster.

V2.5 also includes intake gasket replacement, which none of the earlier
versions had, amongst other things.

V2.5 is on sale for the MSRP of $109.00 plus shipping.

V2.5 is available for an upgrade fee of $20. You will be required to return
your original CD and cover in order to qualify for the upgrade. (you can
keep the case if you need a spare...)

I suggest that you upgrade your CD directly through Koala Motorsport, by
going to http://www.koalamotorsport.com/v2.5_order.htm and following the
instructions.

At this time, Jason at Zionsville Autosport is also willing to supply the
upgrades. I've yet to hear from Will Turner (he's off racing) or UUC
Motorwerks on their position.

I strongly suggest you use Koala Motorsport for the upgrade for one reason
only. My dealers will NOT make money from the upgrade. They will be
charged the same $20 they charge you. This is not entirely fair on them, but
the only other choice was to increase the price of the upgrade to compensate
them. As these companies need to be paid for their employees time, it is
unfair to inundate them with requests for, essentially, free service.

Please feel free to email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with any questions.

Thanks

Cincinatti Microwave Passport. The previous owner double sided taped it to the
dashboard, and was afraid something bad would happen if he tried to pull it
off, so it came with the car. :)
