At 13:16 -0600 on 000331, you commanded the electrons to create a
missive titled "[uuc] Speedbleeder- The good, the bad, the ugly???":
|Does anyone have any personal experience (good or bad) with Speedbleeders?

|Looks like a great idea - but I'm concerned about introducing a weak link in
|an already excellent brake system.

I've run them on several of my cars. They aren't a weak link by any
stretch. If they fail completely, they're exactly like a normal bleed
screw. Earl's also makes something similar, and I think I like the
Earl's design a little better, but I've never used them.

Since Chris was in the desert he may been in a "sandy"
rather than dusty environment. Sand particles are a lot
bigger than dust particles. I'm not an expert like Jim C.
and I don't have any lab tests, but the Land Rover list guys
in Africa have reported that a (properly oiled) engine with
a K&N will be shot after a couple weeks of driving in convoy
on dusty roads. Land Rover list member Daniel from San
Francisco who shipped his Land Rover to Africa for a safari
heard many K&N horror stories while waiting for his engine
to be rebuilt. He went from burning a quart of oil every
3,000 miles to burning a quart an HOUR in two weeks (driving
in a convoy with other vehicles kicking up dust). On Land
Rover trips in Northern California we do a lot of driving on
logging roads and the big Cat tractors that make the roads
grind the dirt in to fine baby powder like consistency. It
is ugly to look under a K&N filter after a day of off
roading on logging roads. I think K&N filters are fine for
track days (or if you are leasing a car and don't care if
the engine lasts more than 30,000 miles), but I will always
pop the paper filter back in for the drive home from the
track on a car I care about. With the Range Rover I always
replace the paper air filter with another paper after I
leave the pavement (and pop an oiled sponge in to the air
horn). When I swap filters so I have a clean one for the
drive home and bang the filter on the ground I am amazed how
much dirt makes it past the oiled foam.

In the trunk of my 325is, I found a sterling silver cufflink, with a
gothic "P" on it.
In my 85 318i, I found pot, under the ashtray, and in that odd, little
square cutout in the carpet that E30s seem to have on the tranny
hemp....I mean hump.
When I was little, my older bros would buy cars (mostly wrecked), and
part them out for extra money (and to get parts for free), and we young
'uns would often help. Anyhow, my bro bought his friend's Dodge Omni
024, which had an argument with a very large tree, and lost (the
driver's seat was ~10-12 inches wide, and the center console was under
the passenger seat). We found ~$10 in change scattered in every square
inch of that interior. There were coins up under the dash, between the
rear seat and side panels, etc.. every time that I find a coin in a
car, it reminds me of the joy of scuttling cars....

In my ex-'81 320is, one of those cheesy Wal-Mart car compass, a ball
point pen, 30 cents and a small half eaten bag of chips stuffed in
the back seat... <thinking> mmmmm, chhiipss...

In my 83' 528e, nuttin' yet. Still looking...

Subject: [uuc] master brake cylinder sizes?

Anyone know where I can find a list of sizes of master brake cylinders
from various BMWs, as in the E30 M3 begin 23mm and the 750iL 25mm? I
am particularly interested in the E34 M5's size.

Thanks.
