The correct filter for an E30 M3 is an OC 84 (Mahle or Purolator). It weighs
13.3 ounces, the OC 25 filter (Mahle or Purolator PC 201) weighs only 12.2
ounces. The OC 84 filter was called the "Arctic" filter in pre-M3 days. It
had stronger wall and would resist exploding in colder climates. When the E30
M3 came along BMW used that filter for the application. The OC 84 is about
$1.50 more than the normal four cylinder filter.

As far as tools go, Mahle makes one, PN LS 7 (which I happen to sell). It
fits on the end of the filter and has provisions for using a screwdriver
across it or a large socket on the end of it (27mm?). It has 14 flats inside
it just like the filter and makes a really intimate fit on the filter. Not
rocket science, just the correct tool for the job.

Steve,

Kobalt is a divsion of Snap-on tools. The quality is excellent, as well as
the warranty. They are currently only available at sLowe's, as far as I
know...I only use Snap-on personally, but have looked at the complete line of
Kobalt, and for home use, they should be very good. They seem to have a much
better fit and finish than any of their competitors.

I met someone online today that's wanting to sell his E30, so I thought I'd
help him out by posting this to the list.

Car is in NJ/PA area. The key broke in the ignition, and he doesn't have
time to get it out, plus there is not a competent locksmith nearby. I can't
remember for sure, but I think he said he's selling for about $600. The
engine runs just fine. Car would be great with some cosmetic cleanup, or it
could be used for parts. Sounds like it's in really good mechanical shape.

There are some pics posted online at http://www.tomdavis.com/bmw/

No affiliation, blahblahblah.. (although he said I'd get a 50 cent
commision.. hehe..)

 Jason,

Since you did the conversion. can you share with the
list if you were to do it all over again taking cost
into consideration you you still do the conversion
with your 325i or you would just start with an M3
 instead?

Not to start up a rampant foglight thread that won't die, but...

I was flipping through an Audi MY2000 brochure the other day, and came
upon this interesting commentary. Pointing out the foglights, the
commentary said something to the effect of "To us, it's as important to
be seen as it is to see."

Which leads to the question: do you suppose Audi deliberately mis-aims
their foglights at the factory so that their cars are more "visible"?

500 with a dvd drive this is connected to a tft flat
panel display I use a trackball and a small keyboard
like the imac's. When you think about it I can play
 cd's, mp3's, vcd's, dvd's and pc games I also have
lots of emulators and can play playstation, n64,
mega drive, super nes, mame and loads of others. This
can all be fitted to your car for under $1500 if you
build it yourself. The next thing I'm doing is
installing a dolby digital decoder to get the best
sound for the movies.

Wow! That is just fantastic. And you can do all this while travelling
at over 100 MPH. Can I ask why the hell you would watch a movie in a
car, or play video games? MP3 is different, it is non-interactive, and
doesn't require you to take your eyes off the road.

God I hate stupid gadgets in cars.

'00 323Ci sport, either with or w/o factory Conti or Dunlop tires. Clean w/o
road rash if possible. These wheels are BMW part number: 36 11 1 094 506.

Anyone got a line on these? Please reply to:

whatsa matter with in flight entertainment? It is no surprise that
seemingly pointless devices such as video games or vcrs can quiet a
terminally restless individual, be it a child, or a traveler on an
airplane. Its only a matter of time before on-windscreen entertainment
includes some battle zones of visual distraction for the somnambulent.
Even as we bald, the dandy beast known as Cadillac has taken military
imaging to sellt what is a computer enhanced night vision on windscreen
which illuminates about 3X further down the road.
Now if only Mr. Comforti could customize the Sony Night Shot chip
to view bedroom interiors alongside the road, I'd trade in my German

This is almost a week late, (I had posted earlier but the list problems
prevented the post from going through) but I just thought I'd say what a
great day Leo Franchi hosted at Midwest Motorsport last Saturday.

There were lots of incredible M-cars and just walking up the road to the
shop past all the cars was inspiring/humbling. I had to leave early so I
missed Leo's talk on suspensions. Was anyone there? What did you think?
Also, any thoughts on the "lubrications" guy?

I just wanted to give a collective, "thanks" to Leo and family for putting
together a super day.

Is there an official procedure for bleeding brakes with ASC+T systems?
I take it from the "wonderful" E34 Bentley that pressure bleeding is

Don't worry about it. Just pressure bleed them and get on with life.
If it really freaks you out. Bleed them, go engage ABS a few times and
bleed them again.

I hate to keep asking this, but I still haven't purchased my cd changer for
my 99 328is. I'm really debating, and was wondering if anyone used an after
market brand, such as Bose, which would be very nice. If so, I would like to
know, how it works with the car. I'm scared to death for some odd reason to
do this mail order deal. I know all I have to do, is call Pacific BMW. But
I'm so leary of purchasing from a place that tells me, if it doesn't work, I
can't get a refund. That just really scares me. Thanks for any advise you
can give, I'm really excited about getting one, but hate to rush into
anything I might be sorry for later.

Subject: [uuc] 87 325is - buying assistance

I've been looking for a six, but this car popped up at work. I took it for
a test drive. Car handled well, motor seemed strong. Damn, I should have
looked more closely at this car before I bought my VW in 94, but I digress.
The owner claims regular maintainance (2nd owner from 18k, now has 148.5k),
but the brake lining and coolant warning lights are lit, OBC is red (claims
the dealership wanted $500 to reset the lights). The trunk shows burglary
damage (pried up so it doesn't seal well - pool of water on drivers side).
Interior is good up front except the carpet is shot by the gas pedal. Rear
seats look like a tortoise shell. Timing belt changed at 98k. The body
shows small dents and dings, the front spoiler is intact but abused and both
fogs and a high beam have rock holes. I just had time for a quick drive.
The owner is asking $5k. Any comments would be appreciated. I'ld like to
get back to my six search if this is overvalued.

Cheers,

Roland

just scared of anyone that tells me, it comes with a warranty, and I can

it at my local bmw dealership heck, they know if they are in there right
