[uuc] RE: Tire size change on '99 M3 [uuc] CD Changer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 00:13:05 -0700 From: "Jan Redovich" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] E28 Failing NOX --> Followup First of, BIG thanx to all who responded - I got quite a bit of advice that I'll try to implement as soon as time permits. Here's the list of things that I've tried: Replacing the computer with US version (came with the car) -- did not h*lp at all, the results were about the same, and I lost power (rather got back to the US stock spec). Because I have replaced my O2 sersor since, I'd try it again, just to be sure Replacing the cat -- I went with DEC cat from Steve D's. I believe that it is 3 way but it does not say that on the invoice, so I gotta talk to him and confirm this. Replaced the O2 sensor - went with universal 3 wire Bosch sensor. Ran a smog test on a shop machine (Older unit-- doesn't have NOx) and the results for pre-cat exhaust mixture were almost identical to the results in the tail pipe. The test was run at idle speed, and not under load. Looks like the cat is doing nothing. Adjusted the air mixture via the wheel (simultaniously with above) on the AFM because the screw didn't h*lp much -- the amount of CO is 3 times the norm supposedly. That's at idle speed. Ran the car low on gas, then put 32oz of octane booster in it. I realize now that it probably was not enough to knock NOx significantly. Besides I'd rather the car pass on 92 octane gas - because that means it's running correctly. Performed the hot soak of the engine, but that only made it run rough - due to extremely rich mixture. No black smoke out of the tail pipe either. Just white. I may be forgetting something, but this pretty much covers my t-shooting process. And after 6 months from my initial smog check, the results have not gotten any better as of last check. They are now actually worse by another 100 units of NOx. Everything else passes fine, well within the limits. Again, private responce is desired, Jan. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 09:19:31 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] Re: [uucdigest] V3 #602 In a message dated 4/14/00 10:35:07 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > Scott Catlin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [uuc] <E30> 325is First Impressions (LONG) > regarding the obc. i have a 95 m3 and the OBC does not come on unless you activate it with the left stalk or push a button on the faceplate of it. otherwise it lies there dormant. you didnt describe the 747 sound clearly enough, but i know that cars with exhaust leaks have an airliner/jet sound to them from the high pressure air escaping when accelerating. thats about all i know of the questions that you had tommy 95 AA turbo m3 12.013 1/4mi on street tires ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 07:40:05 -0700 (PDT) From: Jay Guillermo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] UUC SS EVO install HELP! Hey guys, need your help. Well, I must have eaten a super breakfast because I managed to break one of the arms of the clip that holds the shifter to the selector rod. I'm still on the first phases of the install, actually. Trying to take off the clip, then broke one of the arms. I saw some rusts but didn't realize there's so much to make it hard to remove the clip. I know what to do next, spray some (or maybe even a lot) of 4WD then wait. And yet I'd still welcome suggestions on how to remove a one-armed clip. My concern is when I put in the UUC EVO. Can I still use the one-arm clip? Logic dictates NO! If so, where can I get a replacement clip? I'm not sure if the clip is universal that you can get it from any auto store, but if someone can tell me that would be great. Thanks a lot in advance. ===== Jay '93 325i BMW CCA NJ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send online invitations with Yahoo! Mark: I agree with your assessment that Ground Control has some cool BMW stuff. I checked out their site after Jack Money decided to put some of their stuff on his new (to him) E30 M3. I looked at the $39 gizmo myself and did not feel it to be a replacement for the damper, but rather something that rigidly attaches the lower part of the shift lever to the upper and takes out the compliance built in by way of the rubber bushing between them. This would provide the shift feel of a solid one-piece lever at the expense of greater vibration at the knob. The picture is not particularly revealing but I can imagine a split ring that has a steeped diameter hole in it with one corresponding to the dia. of the upper lever and one to the dia. of the lower. When the split ring is allen bolted over the lever at the junction of the two levers it rigidly attaches the lower half to the upper. I'll be the vibrations engineer for a bit and point out that the rubber sleeve in between the two lever parts is not a damper but an isolator. A damper would be like a metal-rubber ring around the lever. Since I have the E36 M3 lever in my cars, I was thinking of getting one. If you do get one, I would appreciate your comments. Neil Deshpande 1988 325 iS 1989 325 iC *** Mr. Mark Sipe, reviewed the Ground Control WWW page . . . FYI, Ground Control sells a solid metal sleeve to replace the rubbery shift dampener and provide much crisper shifts (their claim, never tried one myself), $39 each I believe: www.ground-control.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 11:24:19 -0400 From: "Henry Caldwell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] <OFF TOPIC> Parking sticker I came out of Kinko's yesterday to find a vehicle parked so close, I could not believe they were able to exit the car without dinging mine. I found that a regular, foaming-type upholstery cleaner and a damp sponge work well. Spray on the cleaner and work it around GENTLY with the sponge. That should get the area clean but without damaging the nap too much. >Also, is there an archive of this digest? Dunno, but you can get previous digests by using the majordomo "get" command. >How about the old Welty digest? The 225/45 is already taller and at the edge of the size differential window. You'd be better off getting all 245/40's, I think the M3'ers could tell you some of them have done that. The best choice for the price is the new Bridgestone RE730, new Tire Rack tests have it beating the RE71, SP8000; and those are already ahead of the SP9000, Intermediate. Gary Lin Nat'l Capital Ch.
