I think he has a child coming! John Wins!!! You are right or at least close. I'm having my Second kid. I managed to keep the Miata and bike through the first one, by being willing to do a lot of car swapping. My wife loved the Miata, and I told her the bike wasn't worth anything. But with a second kid, we need two cars that can handle car seats. I toyed with getting a used M3, until I tried putting a carseat in and out of the back, and then strapping in my 2 1/2 year old. My back said no. Then we looked at some nice 525 5 speeds, but they just didn't have the zip that I wanted. The 540 was a bit out of my price range, and was definately more of a "toy" than just a car, so in negotiating with my wife for the extra funds, I had to give up the bike. The only reason I rode it recently was to go fast, and I'm hoping the 540 solves that. John, you win an entire box full of Ninja 600 spare parts!!!! Just send $9.95 to cover S&H and I'll ship it right out! ;-) Doug ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 05:56:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Neil Deshpande <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] Inner workings of an S54.... I have seen a set of wheels get paid for when a claim was turned in for wheels that were stacked in the owner's garage.. Do a test... set your cruise control at 50mph. Then, reset your OBC's average speed display (the OBC's speed measurement is more accurate than the speedometer display). Doubtful you will see 50mph. Calculate difference in mph X 2. That's your percentage innacuracy which should be the same percent at any speed. - - Rob ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 07:58:00 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] Re: Justification For Higher Education <P>Rob wrote: Remember that '80s poster, "Justification for High= er Education"? OTHER cars' top speed! ;-) <legal disclaimer> This is what COULD HAVE happened IF maintaining all speed-enforcement laws were not of UTMOST IMPORTANCE to me. Now, with that out of the way... Keeping the names anonymous to protect the "innocent", we were driving back from O'Fest '99 along Route 81 in PA. The road is deserted, we haven't seen another car for miles. 81 is one of those roads that looks fake; it goes straight as an arrow to the horizon and there are no entrances on exits for very long stretches. Sort of an ideal top-speed road. I was following the '97 M3 in front of me, cruising at a sedate 75mph-ish. Keep in mind this '97, when bone-stock, was one of the strongest M3s I had ever experienced. Suddenly the M3 starts to accelerate, I figure he is just picking up the pace. So I'm following, paying more attention to the car in front rather than the speedo. Then I hear this odd whistling sound, and I could not figure out what it was... until I realize the antenna mast is audibly whistling. I think that started at 140. As I was maintaining the distance between us (had to keep backing off the throttle), I found myself rapidly closing. What the hell? Why was he slowing down so soon? Oh yeah, they have those 155mph speed limiters. Although, based on the rpm, he figured actual speed was 158mph. ...at least, that's the way it could have happened except that I always set the cruise control at 55mph on the highway. Really. I swear.
