A hole in the exhaust upstream of the sniffer would introduce oxygen, which would register on the sniffer. It probably won't pass until the source of the excess O2 is found and fixed. Assuming I stick with OEM parts and a reputable independent shop can anyone give me a price estimate including everything (parts, labor...). For a mildly aggressive driver who does one driving school and 2-3 autocrosses per year is there a benefit to getting aftermarket pads/rotors/stainless lines/special fluid? The radio (weatherband model)display is dim, but you can still read it in the dark or when the sun hits it just right. I figured that this would be a simple bad bulb. Last night I tore into the radio and got it all the way apart. I took out the bulbs, (there were two) and tested them with my volt meter but they tested good. Drat! Now I'm thinking the autodim sensor is probably malfunctioning, but I really don't know anything about the dim feature. The good thing is the radio still works after I put it back together, but the radio is still dim. Anyone have any suggestions or have a weatherband radio for sale? The ol' Alpharetta Autobahn. I had to work at 6:00AM on Jan 1, 2000. Siemens was convinced the world was going to come crashing down & wanted people there. Went to bed at 4AM woke up at 10 to 6. Drat, had 10 minutes to get dressed and cover 22 miles. Take the Saab, now way, this was job for the rarely used for work M3. Covered the 14 miles from 285 to McFarland in a little over 7 minutes. Topped out at 147 (speedo is 5 mph fast). Not bad for a "low torque" 4-banger. Didn't see one other car the whole way. Same road, age 17, take a Stillen Q45 for a 156mph blast. I hit triple digit speeds on my daily drive to and from work on 400, and still get passed. Comments? Neil, That car has been there since January. I think there is prolly somethign wrong with it, otherwise it would've been bought by now. They had another one, but it went pretty quickly. I just think with all of the interest in M6's, if that car were any good, it would've been bought by now. Oh yea, you lucky fellow. Kelly let me know all the way from Atlanta to New Jersey & back that she wasn't really thrilled with taking the M3. Imagine the look on my face when she asked if we could take the Saab to the E30 M3 SIGfest!!!! Let alone would she ever want to drive or own one. Nooooo. She wants a new convertible. And she wants to ruin it with that annoying steptronic thingy. I understand that BMW has a refurbishment program with Alpine to repair these units for $80/hr or a $200 flat rate, whichever is less. Anyway - the general level of stupidity and illiteracy that is taking over the www.bimmer.org E39 message board is driving me (and apparently most of the useful posters) away from it (I see no one from this mailing list that I know posting on it..) The board has been taken over by a group I don't necessarily want to associate with. If there is any interest in an E39/Yahoo special interest group - not moderated (unless it becomes necessary), and membership only by approval, please let me know and I'll set it up. This would not be intended at ALL to replace this email list - just to let a few of the actual E39 enthusiasts a place to chat without the rampant asshole-ism that has taken over bimmer.org Or - if someone wants to setup a message board format site with restricted access - that would also be a welcome alternative to the current state of chaos on the bimmer.org/E39 board. (I got spoiled by the Z-Coupe board there - although most of the owners of M-Coupes were 1/2 my age - they actually seemed fairly mature, and didn't feel the need to see how much flaming they could do to each other..)
