I had questioned the point of the other clips. The first one convinced me that a 740i could barely outrun a van, that abs brakes dont work worth a damn, etc etc. Atleast in Star, they drive the car like real people would, well atleast like Robbie and I would. Everything in that clip is old school except for the stupid jump. I am just waiting for the statue of limitations to run out which is 7 yrs I think here, then I have some killer clips of what a M3 can do, woooooooohoooooooooo will be the song of choice for it aswell. I guess if it was in a E-30, it woudl have been the old "I think we can make it, I think we can, I think we can" "hey wind up the rubber band some more", lmao. haha, I kill myself. They had replaced the flex disk less than a year ago (about 15,000 miles). They replaced that today due to the shake above 5k rpm. After replacing the flex disk, there is still noticeable shake according to the shop (have not driven since new flex disk) and they say they don't know what it is yet and they will check it out tomorrow. The new flex disk eliminated most of the shake, but it is still present. Also they said they believe something to do with my driveshaft is causing my flex disk to go bad. Anyone have any ideas?? I only had the car 10 mins before I returned it to the shop today, but it looked sweet with the H&R race springs and bilsteins with the M countours. Also from what everyone said the ride would be harsh with the race springs, and I find that not to be the case, I could barely feel any difference going over bumps. Also I installed a M3 exhaust, much quieter than the stock exhaust on my 325is (which I think was shot), and seemed to drive a bit nicer. November 16, 1999, New York Times obituary by Douglas Martin included a story about an assistant to Col. Stapp, one Capt. Edward A. Murphy, Jr., who had incorrectly installed some sensors used on Stapp in a 1949 high-speed sled ride. The sensors could be installed in one of two ways, and Murphy managed to place every single sensor in the wrong position. And so it was that Col. Stapp, staggering off of the sled with blood oozing from his eyes, learned that the sensors all read "zero"--he had been tortured for nothing. Capt. Murphy remarked, "If there are two or more ways to do something and one of those results in a catastrophe, then someone will do it that way," the original statement of the well-known Murphy's Law, "If Something Can Go Wrong, It Will Go Wrong (at the worst possible time)." http://www.sandia.gov/afsec/facility/sled.htm The large ejector sled can throw items weighing up to 2,400 pounds to 250 feet of altitude at speeds up to Mach 1.5. The small ejector sled can throw items weighing up to 100 pounds as high as 200 feet at speeds approaching Mach 3. I think not Hi everyone, This subject stirs debate as much and as often as new models have debuted over the years, generally pitting owners of previous models against those of the newer models. Remember when the E32 came out? "Uh, what a pig compared to my lovely '85 735i." The market saw it differently and appreciated the new design in large numbers. E34? "Ugh... what have they done? It's a 5 series that spent too much time at the air pump and bulged out!" cried the E28 owners. The E34 too began to look much better, real soon, and correspondingly the 5 series sales figures skyrocketed. E36? "What the hell is that Accord doing in the BMW showroom?" opined the E30 owners. Name the model and the era, and it happens every time. Sometimes the new model looks a little odd at first, until we come to appreciate the evolution, and, inexplicably, it really does start to look better than the old one. And so the old one looks sort of classic, but gee, the new model really does look nice. Funny how that works. There is no predetermined design path BMW is headed on, where a design chief just follows a design formula like a recipe in a cookbook. Yes, in a vague, mission statement kind of way, there is some sort of celestial path. But the actual designs evolve on the drawing board year by year, concept by concept, auto show by auto show. In the face of competition, BMW has to forge its own path, proacting and reacting, testing different design concepts in the show cars to gauge public opinion. So, while we're jabbing at the future models and BMW's "path", keep in mind that the same scenario's been played out so many times, over so many model introductions, over so many years. We're still here, aren't we? If the E23 guys really were right back in '87 when we first saw the E32 and the then-new "design language", I don't suppose that today we'd be hanging out on the UUC digest, would we? God forbid, we might all be driving Mercedes. That said, I'll continue my ramblings. Here's a few of my thoughts on the current state of design: E46 compared to E36: At first, I, like the early press, thought the E46 was too close to the E36 in design. "They're taking no chances! No risk taking! Recycled!". But it grew on the press, and me too, very quickly. Now I think the E36 looks narrow, without the meatiness the E46 has. The nose got snubbier, which I like, the wheel wells, especially the rears, got wider and rounder. To my eyes, the E46 makes the E36 look more, dare I say it, like a late '80s Accord from the side. (Remember the E30 guys back in '91?) Too slab sided, not enough shoulders. The M3 did the best it could with the body style and indeed it looked great, what with the ///M aero kit and fat rear wheels and tires on the later models. Still, not too much beef from the side, which the E46 has in spades. I think Bangle did a terrific job in the evolution of the fine looking E36 into the even better E46. No undue messing with the good points, but improving where he could. E38 compared to E32: The E38 is far better than the E32. The E32 looks like a pig next to the sleek but broad shouldered E38. My wife's E38 740iL, with its 18 X 8.5 255/45 front and 18 X 10" 285/40 Schnitzer Type II wheels over Eibach springs and Bilstein HDs (dumped the self leveling suspension) looks seriously menacing for such a tank. Drives damn well for its size, too. Could an E32 capture such a rakish, sporting BMW look? Not a chance. The E32 had bloated styling by comparison, but in its time it was a revelation over the E23. E39 compared to E34: My E34 is an M5 with 18 X 8.5 245/40 and 18 X 10 275/35 BBS RK wheels, and certainly looks wicked for an E34, but the E39 can look so much meaner and purposeful. Sure, the early E39 had a seriously lame front spoiler (or lack of it), but they fixed that. The broad shoulders of the E39, especially those beautiful wide wheel arches shared with the E38, can't be touched by the E34's comparatively wimpy rear arches. The fat square tail of the E34 is really cleaned up on the E39. Again, a superb evolution to my eyes. Now the new E65, from what I saw on www.bmw.com, looks really nice from the side. They didn't give us a good glimpse of the rear on the BMW site, but the vague, snow covered spy shots in the press did make it appear as though it has an A6-like rounded butt. Somehow, I don't think that's what it'll really be, though. From the angle we can catch at bmw.com, it looked different than the spy shots . I'll bet when the finished cars arrive in the showroom, we'll see some with some great wheels on them and again, the E38 will look dated and weaker in design. As for the E60, well, in the press photo it did look kind of weird. I'll reserve judgement until after I get to see the actual car in person and let the design sink in for a while. Maybe it will shock us a bit at first, but after a few months we may be liking it big time. In summary, I think that throughout the 80's and 90's BMW has done a great job in design. Even an oddity such as the M coupe communicates such a clear intent of performance that it justifies its appearance. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'll bet a whole lot of us hardcore fans appreciate what that car is all about. It takes a company secure in its identity to pull off a car like that. The path to the future? Well, BMW seems to be finding it's way along just fine considering the number of us fans and the sales figures. Given the evolution they've demonstrated in the past decade, and the market's reaction to Bangle's E46, I'll bet they'll hit a few more home runs in the years ahead. Of course, some of us will be scratching out heads, trying to figure out what the hell that thing is replacing our beloved E60s. The king is dead! Long live the king!
