Just read this article on AOL. Not bad. $100 for the
first offense, and $150 or so for the next. I can't
remember the rest of the law. At least it's a step in
the right direction.

Now lesse if the legislature that matters to ME
(Louisiana) will do this.

ha ha, FAT CHANCE.

Peace to all,

What is the life expectancy of the fuel injectors on the Big 6? I have a '90
535i that is just beginning to show some signs of hard starting when hot.
Could it be a leaking injector? It has 102,000 miles on the originals.

its likely your brake light switch -- when's the last time you replaced it?
just because your brake lights work when you're looking at them testing,
doesn't mean they always do. i had this problem, and every time i would
check them they'd be fine, but sometimes the brake light would stick on,
sometimes its actuation would be delayed, etc. (as reported by people behind
me).

Mine does this every now & then. Start up the car stab the brakes & the
light doesn't go out. More commonly, stabbing the brakes after the first
time will cause it. Brake lights work fine. Only way to reset is to
restart the car (very Microsft isn't it???). I've tried cleaning up the
contacts, but it still happens now and then, just not enough to be
bothersome. My theory is that some stabs at the pedal are so quick that the
check circuit sees the switch on the pedal engaged, but doesn't get enough
current back from one of the lights to acknowledge the check circuit, hence
it thinks there's a problem.
Wild speculation happening here,

No flames intended but as much as I don't like cell phone abuse, the last
thing we need is more government in our lives and in our cars. This is
purely political as a there has been at least one study that I saw that
shows that cell phone use is about 4th or 5th on the list of distractions
that cause accidents. Well below tuning the radio and eating and drinking.

Personally I'd rather get a few more drunks off the road.

Maybe it will distract them from the "velocity revenue" tickets? Could be a

Good points, both of you. And I will be one of the
first to knock the extensive "revenue collection" that
goes on every day along our highways and city roads.
I hate it just as much as the next enthusiast.

But, something must be done to combat this. Someone
probably has an argument saying that people won't
follow the law and that the police won't enforce it.
Yes, you are correct in saying that it probably won't
be enforced and that there are many that will not
follow it. BUT, there are thousands out there that
WILL follow it.

It's the same thing as a speed limit. Some people
don't follow them much or at all (<cough> yours truly
<cough>) and hate to be pulled over for it while
others aren't afraid of being pulled over for speeding
BECAUSE THEY NEVER SPEED. This new law is the same
way. Some will follow it while some will not.

I'm sure someone will follow with what I'm about to
say, so I'll go ahead and say it. Yes, drunk driving
has been around for AGES, and it still hasn't been
quelled even though there have been laws upon laws put
into place to stop it.

. . . I say some change is better than no change.

I never use my cell phone in the car anyway. I turn
it off and don't even THINK about it.

Too bad others can't use the same discipline and fully
commit themselves to the task at hand (driving).

E28 and CS's as pinnacles of classic BMW design? I like this guy. I echo
Brian's message. Then again I like old designs like the 1964 Corvette's and
the Alfa GTVR. Ever see a Z7 next to an old Corvette? Hmmm. New designs
represent the clean designs of the day but the old styles reflect the raw
side.....just like me.

More likely to need cleaning than replacement.....I gave my '89 E34 535i the
big induction system clean last year (incl cleaning and flowing of
injectors) and it ran much stronger afterwards...

There's two noteworthy points about this law.

For one thing it's much easier to look at a driver and tell if he's got a
cell phone pressed against his head than it is to see if he's drunk. Both
can cause weaving. I didn't read the article but I think it says "hand
held" as opposed to just plugging in a headset of some description.

The other is I'll bet the enforcement will be very selective to the point of
assisting officers with their profiling campaign. On the bright side that
will mean I'm not in danger up there. On the down side that means many of
you who are abiding by every other law on the books and driving perfectly
can be stopped for something now. Get a headset adapter.
