You have to admit that the yellow Vette was beautiful to look at and had a great sound. I also loved the look of the Smurf Blue M3. The Boxster was completely outclassed but I think it had better skidpad numbers than the M3. Amazingly the Vette beat both in the skidpad. I want that Vette! I'm pretty sure it was Willow. 0-60 were: vette Z06 4.24 M3 4.6-something? Boxster S 5.32 They went for the M3's practicality in the final judgement, I guess ... only one second slower than the Vette around the course so they figured it was making up in the turns all that it was losing in the straights (quite a bit; the Z06 makes 385 hp and a ton of torque). I was really impressed with the Corvette's braking, actually: 60-0 was 105 feet to the M3's 111; 100-0 was 303 ft. and 321 ft respectively. Pricey compared to the $155 DaLan hitch, but I believe that is complete with wiring, hitch ball, cover plate for the hole cut in the rear bumper, etc. Also the BMW hitch is rated for 3500 lb, whereas the DaLan hitch is only rated for 1500. The Euro cars with the hitch have the rear bumper shocks replaced with a fixed bracket, apparently the hitch fits into space that the bumper uses when it gets hit. However, if any of you are in contact with someone who has recently stopped receiving it, please pass along this info. Some changes were made recently to how the UUC Digest gets sent in an attempt to speed up delivery. This resulted in two problems: 1) Some names accidentally removed from the subscriber list. First step is to follow the directions at http://www.uucdigest.com and re-subscribe. 2) AOL users' subscriptions in place, but not receiving the UUC Digest. This is caused by AOL. How? AOL has recently started rejecting some of the mail from lists that sort by domain name. They have declared this an "anti-spam' measure, but spam doesn't work like a mailing list and this won't help one bit. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to who gets the mail and who doesn't. Mike Donohue, the UUC Digest Administrator, is working on a way to "fool" AOL into receiving mail that it damn well should receive. - - Rob Levinson UUC Digest ListOwner ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2001 09:52:59 -0400 From: "Pat Donahue" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] BMW hitches in general, was E36 M3 trailer hitch Also the end result won't be a 2" receiver ala American cars and hitches. You'll only be able to slide in the Euro ball mount. Your earlier plan of using the DaLan unit and welding on a 2" receiver is still better. Neil Deshpande http://www.neilwerke.com *** Carlos Lopez <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> They put a Corvette Z06 against a Boxster S and an E46 M3 through a few tests. From what I can remember, 0-60, 0-100, 0-100-0, 60-0 & 100-0, 600 ft slalom, road course lap time. Anyhow the Corvette pretty much won every category, it beat the M3 by about 5ft in the 60-0, about 20ft in the 100-0, about 2 seconds in the 0-100, tied the M3 at about 68mph thru the slalom and was 1 second faster than the M3 around the road course (59.50 vs 1:00.50). Or something close to that. The Boxster S was behind both the M3 & Vette in almost every category. Nevertheless they declared the M3 the unanimous winner in this "performance" test, although the Vette won 5 categories and tied in 1. Must be that the M3 has that back seat huh? ;-) or else GM interior styling. <jk> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! The last time I looked at Discount Tire, the monitoring system was only $300 installed, or even cheaper than that. I consider that pretty cheap already considering what the rims and tires on my M5 cost and the convenience of knowing the pressure w/o checking it. Presumably the run-flats would be even more expensive and apparently prone to damge from running flat as well. Neil Deshpande http://www.neilwerke.com *** "Gary Derian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Run flat tires will get inflation monitors first because a flat is not obvious to the driver. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
