The only thing I am confused on is the "paintline" stuff. 18,22,55,90 are the choices. Also for instance in line 55 my paint has 4 variants 55-203, 55-203 /40, 55-203 /60 and 55-203 /90. Then under paint line 90 there is the same type of thing. 90-203, 90-203 /40, etc. There are CPSM numbers on all sheets. Maybe I should use that? They are MA387.50, MA408.50, etc. and don't change from sheet to sheet. I asked for some info from BASF America. It's not a morning thing as it happens pretty much anytime the car is started. I get a high pitched sound, almost like a belt screech, and a low and lumpy idle. Giving it some gas gets rid of it until the next time its started. Anyone have any clue as to what is going on? Thanks. Has anyone tried to use a 9003 bulb in place of an H4, or vice versa? What are the differences between the two bulbs, if any? The way I see it, the Tire Rack blurb supports my opinion that mileage ratings are comparable between brands. There may be some unknown added accuracy when comparing grades within a brand, but that does not prevent comparisons between brands. Your original post stated that treadwear grades are only comparable within a brand. That is incorrect and prompted my reply. H4 (like H1) is the footprint reference. FYI - we have plenty "H4-type" bulbs in that range. 70/65, 85/80, 100/80, etc.. We also have an H4 "super" model that supposedly "throws" up to 30% more light on the road. That number is 64193SUP. I had the same issue 8 years ago with my first 318i and the only fix that worked was replacing all the wire. Don't know why, couldn't find any holes or corrosion, but it worked. The current problem is not so erratic other than the engine rhythmically surges - as if the fuel pressure was haywire. I have a fuel pressure relief valve I intend to put on tonight. Yes I know the A/C kicking on and off and the acceleration producing more juice than at idle thing, and it is not that. It is a sudden very quick, slight up/down/up/down. Not in any pattern, but continuos. I saw this on her trip computer a few months ago and figured that the display was failing. I was wrong. Could it be the voltage regulator? I haven't but a meter to it to check output yet, but figured this could be the prob. the alternator/voltage regulator were replaced about 35K ago.Any ideas would be appreciated. I took it into my dealer's while it was malfunctioning (shutting off the engine would temporarily clear the malfunction) and insisted upon it being checked promptly. Turned out the control computer had failed. The dealer's fancy test computer could not find my control computer at all when it was malfunctioning. When they shut off and restarted the car, the malfunction cleared and my computer became visible to the test computer. The computer is an expensive part, so I'm glad it did not wait another 500 miles to fail!! If Gary's test does not point to a mechanical problem, visit your dealer.
