My wife and I were almost involved. We were heading North on Chambers and I noticed that there were some police cars responding Southbound; some were going fast some were going slow. I noted to my wife that I thought it was strange and maybe they were chasing someone and those units were trying to cut him off. About 3 minutes later and about 2 miles away, we were going North on Tower about 3 blocks North of Hampden. I'm in the left lane going 40 and flashing lights catch my eye in the rearview mirror. In a split second, I notice: 1) that there is a Blazer behind us in the center lane about 100 yards behind us, 2)there is a Jeep in the right hand lane even with us, 3)the police car is really moving... So I turn on my left turn signal to indicate that I'm NOT going to yield to the right, but I will be staying right where I am (not wanting to cut off the police nor crowd the right hand side with the Jeep). As it turns out, they were chasing the Blazer that was in the middle lane. Immediately after I make the decision to stay in my lane (and before my foot hit the brake pedal), this Blazer splits the Jeep and our Suburban at an estimated 80-85mph; followed by the entire Aurora Police Department. Maybe not the 'entire' force, but at least 25 cars and/or motorcycles. Then we see the helicopter. I never noticed the speed of the Blazer looking in the mirror. I only registered the speed of the police car at the time. If I went right, who knows what would have happened. We turned on the scanner after getting home and listened to the rest of the pursuit and the aftermath. There were 4 shooting crime scenes. Apparently, one of the Aurora officers shot the suspect before he made it to Denver. The guy ended up trying to carjack a few other cars before he gave up to Denver Police. The BMWCCA Boston chapter in junction with our counterparts in Quebec just this past weekend finished up a two day drivers school and club race at the historic (Mark Donahue among others raced here) Le Circuit, Mt. Tremblant in St.Jovite Quebec. This trace has just been totally resurfaced, widened etc. It is an awesome track. History was made there in the Club Race. Congratulations to Dominic Valois who I am told was the first woman to win a BMWCCA Club race. She did it in style with an overall win. She pretty much smoked the field in an E36 M3 LTW. Her teammate Charles Stickly dropped out with overheating problems on both days and she (running second overall to him most of the time) took charge. But here is the deal. I called a locksmith and they said bring my the trunk lock and glove box lock and I can make it from that. I then have AAA open my car and take those items out take them in and the locksmith says that he can make me a door key but not one to start the car. Now I went to the dealer and gave him the VIN number to get the key code for the key. But the car is to old and don't have those records in the US system. So they had to fax Germany to get the code. But that was Tuesday and they haven't heared back from they yet. So I wanted to see if there was anyone out there that might have access to key code infomation. Local Wal-Mart should carry them in numerous lengths, coiled and uncoiled.
