Whoa.... could this possibly be a "mint" 88iS with low miles, a spectacular
interior, shiny basketweaves, and a factory-new shifter? Don't waste your
time bringing it back - it'll never be the same after sitting. Luckily I'll
take it off your hands for $500 so you won't ever have to see it again.
<bfg>

Seriously, I'd replace all the bushings, rubber (door seals, hoses, etc)
components, and don't forget to clean the fuel tank. Old gas does bad
things.

Lastly, clear out where small farm animals have been residing in the engine
bay all these years...

It is hugely expensive to convert a Euro car to US. About $10K. Anything
after 1996 needs OBDII which is more complex, yet, essentially a full US
spec engine controller and wiring. It is usually not worth the expense
except for some special cars, like an E34 M5 which is cheap enough in
Europe, desirable in the US, and old enough to not require OBDII.

It is far easier to buy a US model for Euro delivery. Just visit your
favorite dealer.

Hi listers. I have a source for euro body stuff for E28 cars. This source
is directly from Germany. I can get genuine M-technic parts. Parts
available consist of the side skirts, front damn and rear skirt, bumpers,
and the front grill complete parts and hardware including the grill with the
oversized lights, the headlights themselves complete with wiring harnesses,
and these grills with or without the wiper assemblies (which also come with
the wipers/motors/wiring harness). This same source also can get just about
anything euro for any BMW model. If anyone is interested, just send me a
message telling me what you are looking for, and I will get you pricing and
info.

the C1 isn't a _car_ tho as it's the BMW "enclosed" scooter/small engine
motorcycle, so the same rules might not apply. see this cute BMW page on the C1
here : http://www.bmw-c1.com/c1/english/index.htm

AFAIK motorcycles are not OBD-anything, just have emissions reg's. I would
assume that you can order a C-1 with catalysts which meet whatever European regs
there are for such things & then get it thru the US registration & importation
hurdles that way.

given that the C1 is certainly much safer than a normal motorcycle & that there
must be ways to make a European moped/scooter/etc legal here, I bet it could be
done for a C1 without too much cost.

Duh, I missed the C1 thing. It should be much easier than a car.

John worked on my car for my Inspection I (M3-E36) and installed my short
shifter and found a broken bracket mount for my transmission and pointed it
out and replaced. He came highly recommended and he did a great job. Tell
him Gio sent you.

There is a rental agency in Miami that, according to their website, should
have them in the U.S. You might wish to contact them and see how they
imported this scooter.

Any idea if these will fit an 87 325i?

You can read the Technical Reference Bulletin regarding the M52 engine at:
http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/engine/M52_ENGINE_BMW_TECH_REF_BULLETIN_117
596.html

Page 9 contains information about the exhaust flap; it is, in fact a noise
thing.

Anyone going to the ALMS and SV World Challenge races at Portland

make it Saturday and Sunday. Any suggestions on good viewing points, etc?

I've been to PIR before, but it has been years and I was on the track on a

Two things I didn't see in your rant:

1. Have you had the rear alignment checked?
B. Did the tires wear evenly or unevenly? What was the wear pattern?

Running staggered size tires will increase the car's understeer which,
depending on your driving style, could cause the fronts to wear faster,
thus matching the crappy wear you're getting out of the rears. I'm not
sure this is a good solution.

Subject: [uuc] looking at 140k mile 325is

Ok, I'm not in the market for a car. My fiancee owns our
commuter (Integra GSR Sedan). I own a sometimes commuter but
mostly for fun and autox 97 M3/4.

That said, I saw an 87 (according to its for sale sign) 325is
sitting in a parking lot near my office today. It's got 140581 on
the clock, the paint looks original, can't see evidence of any body
repairs, and it pretty much looks bone stock, except for the head
unit being a newer aftermarket CD player. The speaker grilles in
the rear say BMW SOUND SYSTEM. Looking under the car, I didn't
see any rust, and the exhaust appears to be stock. The black
bumper/trim parts look somewhat faded, the chrome isn't so shiny,
but all in all, one of the best examples I've seen that appears to
be in daily use.

I of course forgot to take something to write down the vin
number. Anyway, they're asking $5500. Should I even bother?

My goals for the car would be: fun daily driver keeping miles off
the M3 when I need to commute that when payed for would become a
club race or IT car.

Assuming I were to do either of those two race activities with it,
would it find its way into a competitive but well-attended field?

Thanks!
