The pictures are not filtered out, touched up or screened for quality, but there are some real nice shots there. They are a mix from Thursday and Friday practice and the races, but I'd have a vaguely hard time telling you which was which right now. The quality isn't as good as that Flying M3 picture, but then again neither is my equipment nor my location. I was able to get to places regular people weren't, but not anywhere near as close as Mr. Crete. <g> Oh yeah, The gentleman that finished dead last in the GT race has a history here, certainly the name does... There's a pic of his car in the GT section. He was paddocked across the road from us and has dealt with TC Kline this year in some capacity I am unfamiliar with for SSF Motorsports (a primary sponsor for the #21 car of James Sofronas). I'll just say that his earlier infamy seems well earned. The site is only 384KBps DSL and the pics range from 400K to 1,500K (they all have thumbnails) so be patient and gentle. ;) Point your browser to http://www.AlienRacing.net/ProRacing/2001/SearsPoint/. - -- James Sheridan-Peters [EMAIL PROTECTED] National Capital Chapter '98 323is '83 SCCA Spec RX-7 #00 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 15:07:17 -0700 From: "KKiely" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] RE: Lambos Don, Apparently the early Miura's were frought with problems- early sheet metal was paper thin, a lot of body parts were hand crafted so no two were alike, the motor and tranny shared oil sumps and one or the other would suffer because of it, the tranny could not be shifted quickly etc. - -Kevin ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 18:25:53 -0400 From: "Ron Katona" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Airborne, flaming M3 GTR Oohh yeah! Most of those races Porsche was as dominant as BMW is now. Now BMW has a better car any imediately we get penalized. It be nice for this to hold for a couple yrs and event the score a bit. This is what I'd do. As soon as Prosche comes up with equal power, BMW homiligates a 4.4l V8. The nice thing about this is that the 911 just won't fit a larger engine. This will give BMW a power advantage for a while, at least I hope. Allow me to nit-pick a bit :-) Although that may be *technically* true, ALMS GT has followed an evolutionary path: IMSA GTS-2 -> SportsCar GTS-3 -> SportsCar GT-3 -> ALMS GT (and I havn't even mentioned USRRC, which became Grand Am. CART/IRL have nothing on these guys :-)) In those above mentioned previous incarnations, BMW M3s have won the following Manufacturers titles: 1996, IMSA GTS-2 1997, SportsCar GTS-3 1998, SportsCar GT-3 and 1998 USRRC GT3 Not to mention several Driver's and Team titles as well. Unfortuantely, I can't find any info readily for 1999 & 2000, but you get the idea :-) Just my 2 cents, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 21:24:22 -0400 From: "James Sheridan-Peters" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] Re:Airborne, flaming M3 GTR > Can anyone tell me where at Sears Point a car would get airborne like that? Heading into the Carousel. The cars climb the hill towards the new in-slope grandstand (which received rave reviews from everyone I talked to), scoot past it and make a right-hander back towards start-finish, climbing a little bit. As soon as they crest that little hill the ground drops away drivers left into the carousel. That's where the picture was taken.
