No, no, no. It's just that I'm never home. I travel all during the week,
and usually see him out there working on the cars when I'm in the cab on
the way to the airport on Monday mornings. I have already decided I need
to buddy up with this guy to get a ride in his Ferrari 355 Berlinetta. But
he works all night, then takes his ho's out for early breakfast and comes
home about 6 am and washes/works on his cars. I'm a night owl and all, but
I can't stay up till 4 am waiting for this guy to get off work so I can
introduce myself. It was quite a site the day he moved in. Imagine this
guy, recruiting his strippers to drive his fleet of exotic cars into the
garage, then helping him move his stuff in. And now he's putting in a
POOL. Can't wait to see the hotties out there sun-bathing!! I gotta get
on an in-town project.

Oh, and I don't know Gary, but I know he bought the weinerdog from Dave
Nichols, so I do know who he is. And Pat, come on down to Charlotte
whenever you want. Having met you about 4 years ago at a Korman open
house, I'm certain that you and this guy would get along like two frogs in
a pond.

EXACTLY. Was going to post about the same reply last night, but
it was getting late and I was tired. My reply was going to be one
word "So?"

Practicality has NOTHING to do with lusting after a car.. usually
about the opposite. If we were going after practicality, we'd be
on the Honda Accord mailing list.

You have to imagine the impact coming upon a Miura would have with
no warning on a 23 year old male..

AFAIK the Miura was introduced at the NYC show, and hadn't been in
any US magazines (and there was no net back in 1971..) The booth
wasn't a big one, and it was up on the 2nd floor of the coliseum -
it was turn the corner and THERE _IT_ WAS. Floored me. I was - really -
agape.

Red, beautiful and completely unattainable. And to this day,
unforgettable.

Think of discovering Elle McPherson, naked, waiting and unattainable
- - the same primal lust applied.

KKeily - you ARE a car guy right?? I'm sure you just slipped into
that practical mode by accident. I think we have a 12 step program
somewhere for that :-)

That may very well be so, but don't forget that Ferraris of that era were
equally as unreliable, and at least as artisanale in construction.

It's hard to overestimate the importance of the Miura when it appeared. This
is the car that broke the mould of high performance cars, and invented the
modern supercar.

12 cylinder/4 cam transverse mounted engine mounted amidships, gorgeous
styling, shattering performance by the standards of the day.

Group,

On my daily commute I noticed my check engine light flicker on and off
when coming off the throttle. Additionally my idle is somewhat erratic. A
check of the fault code reveals 1224 as the culprit. Can some please provide
some insight as to what and where this might be? Car is a 95 M3. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

10W60 isn't that thick. Especially if it's synthetic. Glue would be
SAE30W at freezing.

Viscosity ratings do not directly correlate with "thickess". Mobil 1
15W50 is thinner than dino 10W30. I am not an oil engineer, but I do
remember some basics. The first number implies a base. So a 10WXX
is the same as a straight SAE10W oil. 20Wxx is like SAE20W. So in
the case of 10W60, you're not starting out any thicker. The additive
package modifies its viscosity at higher temps and pressures. That's
what the second numbers tell. So a 10W30 oil has fewer modifiers
than a 10W40 oil. I read on an Alfa webpage (wish I could find it
again!) that you should not use dino 10W40, because it requires a lot
of additives vs a 10W30. Additives can turn to varnish, and are some
of the first moleucles to evaporate.

Race engines should use the thickest oil possible to get the greatest
life out of them. High-lift cams with stiff springs put a lot of
load on the oil film. With thinner oils you can get cam lobe/lifter
wear. You get more HP, but only a few more. Thin oil is for fuel
economy. American engine builders use the thickest oils they can buy
(usually Kendall SAE30W) on their pushrod V-8 engines to compensate
for stiff springs and heavey valvetrains (lifters, pushrods, rockers,
big valves).

Gear oils are tested under different conditions. That's why Red Line
MTL (70W80) satisfies motor oil requirements of a 5W30 or 10W30 motor
oil.

I just saw screw it and use Mobil 15W50 in all my BMW engines (M30,
S14, and S38). If I could afford a new M3 or M5, then I'd use the
factory-specified Castrol 10W60.

There's an exception to every rule... Power antenna unit for E30
325: $135 from dealer. For same year Honda Accord: $272. ouch!
(that Honda's got the $25 Pep Boys clamp-in special now.)

It is interesting to see the bodywork differences between the #42 car
and the other cars. Especially around the fenders and front spoiler.
The #42 is the first car produced, so I'm guessing the changes are for
the better.

Sure Woddy, there is a 'nice' hump on the approach to turn #6, the
carousel. My car doesn't get air there, thank you very much, but my head
bumps the roof every time over that hump.

Miura facts :

P400 introduced in March of '66 at the Geneva Auto Show - 475 produced thru '69

P400 S introduced in March of '69, also at Geneva - 140 produced thru '71

P400 SV introduced March of '72 at Geneva - 150 produced thru '72

information from a very extensive page at :
http://members.nbci.com/the_cyborg/page1.htm

I suspect that the car Don saw at the auto show was an SV. there are some Miuras
with very interesting histories IIRC, including a couple owned by the Shah of Iran.

Ben
still thinks this kidney sale thing will work out one day....
