I also cleaned up the bearing surfaces of the linkage rod so they were round again. I've had it together like that for about a year and a half + 30k miles now, and they're holding up fine. Of course, it would have been much easier to just buy new parts, but I had a few hours to kill, and a scrap of Delrin to use up. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 12:08:36 -0400 (EDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] AC progress... It doesn't work yet, but I am geting closer. Thanks to the generosity of several kind souls, I obtained a schematic for the compressor controls from an '86 325. Being one year older than mine, I hoped that the schematic would be close enough. It may have been. For those following this saga (all two of you) I found that the green/brown wire that goes to the compressor enable switch (sliders) does come from the fuse. This means that at least one of my guesses as to how the schemaitcs are coded seems correct. The violet wire that comes off the AC switch (blue button) does go to the evaporator freeze switch (the one you don't want to replace) By the '86 schematic, from there we send a signal to the idle control circiuts, and the stage 1 auxiliary fan. As both my idle speed and the stage 1 fan work as expected. I assume that the evaporator freeze switch is good. >From there it is up to the high and low pressure cut off switches. I had checked these before and found no voltage on any of the contacts. I checked again and still found nothing. Hmmm, those connectors aren't real clean... scrape... nope that wasn't it. Time to check the wire itself. I used a straight pin to harpoon the wire and get a reading. Nothing. No. Wait... What was that? There it is again... I noticed a voltage on the wire. Every eight seconds, there was a half second pulse of presumably 12 volts (my meter is analog and slow. It only made it up to about 5 volts before the pulse ended). This pulse conincided with a relay click somewhere in the dash. I rechecked the contacts on on the plug and now I see the signal on the high pressure switch. Ok... follow the black wire over to the low pressure side... Nothing. By the schematic, that black wire should be straight run from the high pressure switch to the low pressure switch. I am starting to wonder if I am chasing multiple problems here. I may have a broke wire or just really cruddy contacts. I may also have a relay or something that went cruddy because the AC wasn't being used due to the broke wire up front. What ever is happening, there seems to be progress. BTW I gave the compressor hub a turn by hand while I was in there. I felt it move some fluid somewhere inside.
