Mike, you need to place a 16mm or 17mm open end wrench at the base of bolt
from the link. That bolt has two flat spots that require the open end wrench
to keep it from turning while loosening the nut.

Rob:

Coming from a nation of 36% illiterates, I value
literacy greatly! Compare this to 99% in Russia and
who knows how much in the US. 99.99%? In fact, my
brother and I have made more than a dozen people
literate so far by direct teaching and more are made
so each year from funds we set aside.

Rob Levinson * UUC Motorwerks <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
"Here is an example of the infuriating "random
apostrophization" of the English language:"

I would have picked arbitrary rather than random to
describe this!

"This is a minor rant only because I take pride in my
language. Language is the expression of thought, and
addled or unclear language is simply representative of
similarly unclear thought. The ability to structure
concepts into blocks that can be strung together and
further built upon as more complex concepts via
language is the one true thing that separates Man
from most Beasts."

Amazingly enough this is a bit of disputed statement
as far as I know. Noam Chomsky, the world's most
quoted man?, certainly supports the theory that
structure in language can be used to 'back out' the
structure of the brain. Perhaps Steven Pinker too
from the title of his book, but I'm pretty sure it is
not a proven fact!

"Math is a language too."

I think Roger Bacon said, "Mathematics is the language
in which God has written the universe."

"Bottom line: rules for apostrophes are simple:"

Alfred North Whitehead once said, "Seek simplicity and
distrust it." The rules are simple, but it is
difficult to procure an exhaustive list.

"1) Plurals (more than one of whatever it is): NO
apostrophe. Example: One BMW. Two BMWs. Three
donuts."

Except, in at least one case, when the plural is of a
word in quotes, in which case you put a 's inside the
quotes. Note also that in some cases there simply is
NO simple plural form and you _have to_ reform the
sentence. Velasqueze is one such name.

"2) Possessive (something owns something else): YES,
use an apostrophe. Examples: The BMW's foglight was
broken again."

But, sometimes don't use the s! Appearance' or
righteousness' are examples. Mostly written that way
for euphony (to sound decent).

"Rare exceptions:

"a) "It's" works the opposite way because of the "it
is" contraction. No, it does not make sense.
Contractions rate over plurals, I suppose."

Note that not all contractions have consistent
apostrophes. y'all, gonna, won't, etc., are not
simply marked!

"c) Words that end in "s" get the same treatment as
possessive plurals. Example: Fred Jones' BMW ran over
my foot."

Again, some common exceptions like Kansas's, Texas's,
Dickens's, etc. Actually, it should be Fred Jones's
BMW in that sentence. Or the Joneses' BMW as the case
may be.

For an excellent and concise guide to better writing,
take a look at _The Elements of Style_ by William
Strunk and E.B. White:"

IMHO, there is no guide to the English language or
American that is both excellent and concise! For
Hindi, however, I can recommend a few!

Neil Deshpande - thinks in Hindi, but thinks through
English!

Use a thin 15mm or 5/8 thin wrench on the flat between the anti-roll bar and
the ball and socket joint. Its right there by the rubber boot.

Ummm, John

Didnt you get several replies about this tire thing? I know I saw 2 that
were from folks that KNOW E-36 very good. You have an alignment problem or
heavy foot. Those pressures didnt wear the tires out.

I will guess here. The air pump is electric. The DME knows or thinks it is
not working. Relay? Fuse?

The pressure difference between 34 and 41 will not cause excessive tread
wear. Your tramlining is due to the rear wear pattern being used at the
front. In order to successfully rotate BMW tires, you must do it often, say
every 5,000 miles.

The proper possessive form of "it" is its' but the trailing apostrophe is
commonly dropped and has become accepted as proper usage. "It's" continues
to be the contraction of it is.

According to my 1977 Harbrace College Handbook (OK its old), the use of an
apostrophe between a word and the plural s is proper to avoid confusion when
making the plural form of capital letters, symbols, abbreviations not
followed by periods, and of words referred to as words. Therefore 1970's,
the &'s are all proper plural forms. If BMW is a word, then BMW's is wrong.
But if it is an abbreviation, or capital letters, then BMW's is correct.
After all, there may be some other singular item called a BMWs.

I apologize for using the digest for this, but I'm away from home and
don't have any other way to reach Larry! Thanks for the bandwidth.

<Larry>
I am just checking my email remotely on the isp's server, and got a
message from someone who wants to buy those wheels/tires and pick them
up tomorrow! He has "an immediate need." I haven't replied to him to
discuss price with him, because again, you were first. Anyway, I need
to hear from you ASAP, please. I want to sell them, but still
consider you the first interest. I'll check my email often. You can
call me at 616-868-0942. If I've already departed, I'll make sure the
message is relayed immediately and get back to you ASAP. Meantime,
without making commitments to the other party, I want to understand
their situation -- on the chance you've decided you don't want them.
Ok, that's all I've got for now.
Thanks.
Jay
