The seats are loose - I can drop them off. (2) Does anybody know a source for original Recaro fabric? Solid black cloth is what I'm after, though I would consider a tasteful pattern. Didn't someone recently post the name of a website with a large selection of auto upholstery fabrics? (something like "Worldwide Fabrics"?) Thanks! I have recently purchased a 1993 325i with heated seats...I think. They don't work, unfortunately, and it's been too cold to take a long hard look at it so far. I've got the electrical schematic in the Bentley manual to work with, but I was wondering if there are any common failure points on these. The lights on the switches work, and the level automatically changes from high to low after some time, however no heat is generated in either seat. I have checked fuse 4, which is fine. As far as I can tell, everything else in the car works, so I'm not sure what that eliminates. I wonder about the unloader relay (terminal 15) listed in the diagram...what other systems run off this relay? Could it be bad? Right now I'm basically ruling out whatever comes before the circuit seperates to the seats because both seats don't work. Any help? An induction motor depends on the time and spatial relationship of the armature and field windings. At start-up, the armature is not moving and the correct phase relationship is not established. The solution is to add a capacitor sized to give the correct phase shift in conjuction with the motor inductance in series with the armature. Capacitors are used for power factor correction but they only provide for "single point" correction because the motor inductance they compensate is load dependent. Because of this, they are only used this way for the correction of large steady loads that one might find in industrial processes. The best power factor correction for small loads is done with active circuitry. Power factor is an issue for the revenue decrease mentioned by Neil D. It is also a concern because the power still must be processed and transformers and generating equipment have to be sized to handle the load. I'd be happy to bore anyone with the details off-line. Most of the engines that have gone, were from the above dates - not later production dates. Of course now that BMW is warranting the engine for 6 years or 100K miles even if it does go - replacement is free. If it doesn't go by 100K miles it isn't likely to go - unless from driver error. The level in the overflow tank dropped about 2 inches in ~800 miles. I smelled coolant while driving with the heat on twice for about 10 secs, but can't find a leak anywhere in the engine compartent - it doesn't even smell of coolant. If the heater core goes it should drip out of the A/C drip tube (where is this?) but I haven't seen a spot on my garage either. The windshield does not fog up. No coolant in the oil or vice versa. I was going to have the dealer do a pressure test or use some dye. Any thoughts? I know the radiator is suspect on these cars, but I don't see any signs of leaking around joints or the hoses... Their aim in business seems to be the work they produce rather than the professionalism of the appearance of their shop. I am not too surprised that their web site is a little messy. They did a fine job on my rims, one front and one rear. I had minor flat spots that gave me a little vibration. They seemed to have a good knowledge of what could and what could not be done with a rim. I believe they have been in the business for quite a while. I would go back to them again if I needed a rim straightened. I know nothing of RIMPRO. Before I used this address to receive mail from the E36M3 list, I used it solely here, and got spam to it. Not as much as my regular inbox, but still, it comes. I think mostly it's due to harvesting the web archives. There are good ways to randomly alter the email addresses when publishing web pages so humans can understand but a script writer cannot account for them in order to harvest the addresses. I think this is a "banned" topic.
