That hardly makes sense. I suspect you have to prove the value of your car via an apprasial from a qualified source. I had both of my E30 engine swap cars appraised when I bought them, as I financed them thru my credit union. IIRCI paid $200 for the first car & only $100 for the second, as the appraisor was familiar with the situation & didn't have to travel out to look at the car to do the appraisal. it might be easier to value a less unique vehicle - i.e. an E30/E36/E46/etc - - via blue book, Roundel classifieds, owner's groups, marque/model experts, etc. I also think that part of the "American Collectors" deal is that they're largely dealing with collector cars, which implies people having stated valuation for the vehicles in the first place & it not being incremental cost for the owner. He lives in Spain, and I believe has dual citizenship in Spain and the US. I understand that Import tariffs dicate he should buy in Europe. Is there a preferred country to pick a car up if it will end up in Spain? Any arbitrage to be had in buying it elsewhere and driving it? If he is not that car savvy, it there a certified used program in europe that would allow him to buy a slightly used car for a significant discount if "new" isn't that important. Anyone BTDT? Remember that here in Boston is where Antiques Roadshow got its start. Hence our car wash equipment is also old or perhaps you could say it is modern in that rustic sort of sense. Hell I think people still "Simonize" (with vintage 1960s products) their car before winter around here. I go to the carwash and use their hand pressure washers on rinse only (to use the buffered water), and I use my own bucket. Just can't wash the car below freezing.... which its been below freezing for quite some time now. Then again I live in an apartment building so I don't have access to a hose even if I wanted to use the lead infused local water. Wish I had more of the touchless carwashes within a reasonable driving distance. And yes, I'd wear a thick set of sunglasses and maybe a disguise as to not be noticed. I think the rollbar would give it away though.... My 2 is looking quite dirty right now. - -Justin - -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry >>> "Rob Levinson * UUC Motorwerks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 01/15 11:08 AM >>> Note the use of the word "modern" in my earlier post. Yes car washes DO scratch, the cloth material ends up slamming, slapping, smearing, and dragging everyone elses mud/salt/crap/god knows what all over your car. It left a nasty light spiderweb like haze on the surface that required a light abrasive (3m swirl remover) to remove. This was on my old '92 325is. This was only after ONE car wash, and I can't imagine bringing it there weekly. I have yet to bring my M3 to one of these car washes and I've had no issues with spiderwebs or hazing on the paint. Same thing on my girlfriends GEO. Both of these cars get Zymol'd quite often (monthly) when the weather is good and I've had no paint issues. They tough it out when the weather gets cold... Like I said, if I had a close touchless car wash, I'd at least use it once in awhile if we get some really cold weather. - -Justin - -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry >>> Several years ago I had a long talk with a representative from Glasurit (the make BMW OE paint). I described the cracks/scratches etc. in the clear coat to him and asked his advice. He told me that in a hot climate 90-100 degree weather, sun baking on the car, the clear coat and the underlying paint will contract and expand at different temperatures. This causes the pint to rub against the clear coat, on the inside, which means they cannot be removed by polish etc. So how does one prevent this? Don't park in intense sunlight! Or use a cover. I don't think car washes has a whole lot to do with it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jan 2003 17:03:37 -0500 From: "Chris Baker" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] FS: E36 radio & changer Hello group(s), Due to the successful installation of an aftermarket stereo in my '94 325i, I've got an extra tape deck and changer that might as well help offset my costs. From what I've been told, it's an Alpine deck with a Pioneer changer. I know the part number on the back of the changer is CDX M91. Other than that, I don't know anything but can send pictures upon request. I've never had a problem with either unit. As far as price goes, I've been told the head unit goes for $50-$80 on Ebay, and I saw the same changer on Ebay where the bidding topped out at $130 and didn't meet the reserve ('buy it now' was $335!). If I wanted to maximize my windfall, maybe I'd list it. I'd rather sell the two as a pair to some nice UUC type person. If you're interested, make me an offer. If I can't get rid of the pair, I'll let them go separately. In that instance, the head unit's already spoken for (if Mr. Miller still wants it), so I guess you could let me know if you're just interested in the changer. Everything works as it should. Paint is shiny with normal stone chips up front. Wheels need to be cosmetically reconditioned. Never wrecked or repainted. Very nice vehicle. *This car is a third vehicle and was designated as my "track only" car for about a year in 2000. Since that time, I've removed the cage and turned it back into a daily driver/track vehicle. Car has not been tracked since June, 2000. Prior track events were as follows: 3 weekend schools with Peachtree club at Road Atlanta in 1999 and 2000, 1 weekend school at Carolina Motorsports Park in 2000, 1 weekend school at Virginia Int'l Raceway in 1999 with NASA, 4 one day events (Friday at the Track) at Summit Point (1998-1999), 2 BMWCCA club race weekends in 2000 (CMP in March 2000 and VIR in May 2000). This car is both mechanically and cosmetically VERY nice. Many folks would not believe that I ever tracked the car it looks that nice. Reason for sale is that I'm no longer involved in track events of any kind and don't need the M3 just taking up garage space as it has for the last couple of years. Thanks for the bandwidth. Please email any questions. No digital pics available but I will gladly forward 35mm pics to all serious inquiries. Maybe a new Shark Injector will let us play tunes on our engines, too, though we'd probably need an S54 to get to middle A :-). - --Andre Quoted (anonymously) from the email: Load the link and press play. http://astro.temple.edu/~kmr/Chauffe2.mp3 First you'll hear a 10-cylinder, 750 horsepower Asiatech F1 engine being warmed up. Then it performs a rousing version of "When The Saints Come Marching In", to the delight of assembled pit staff and journalists. Here's how the magic was achieved (technical/musical details via F1 Racing magazine): As we all know, a V10 engine produces five combustions per revolution at a frequency per second of 60/(5 x revs per minute), which equals 12/rpm. Therefore, to work out the revs you need to hit a particular musical note, you multiply the note's frequency by 12. To play a 440Hz 'A', for example, you need 5,280rpm. For 'C', use 3,139rpm, for 'F' 4,191rpm, and so on. Asiatech's French technicians (the engine, despite its name, is derived from a Peugeot design) simply programmed their engine to run through the various rev/note ranges in the correct sequence. The result is delightful. And think of the possibilities - BMW's F1 engine, which howls all the way to 19,050rpm, could rip through the entire Hendrix songbook. Even better: imagine a massed NASCAR choir performing "The Star Spangled Banner"! Being eight-cylinder engines, the frequency per second would be 60/(4 x revs), which means you'd multiply the note frequencies by 15 instead of 12: 'A' would arrive at 6,600rpm, 'C' at 3,923rpm, 'F' at 5,238rpm, etc. Mark my words, someone will be getting rich at Daytona next year selling a CD of NASCAR patriotic anthems. ------------------------------ End of [uucdigest] V3 #6026 *************************** ________________________________________ | Please visit these UUC-approved BMW parts vendors/service providers: | (listed alphabetically) | | Autoscope-Motorsports - http://www.autoscope-motorsports.com | Camptown Automotive - http://www.camptownauto.com | Circle Tire Co.
