You must be getting some special deals from BimmersSouth. They
have M3 front calipers, used, for $100 each, not $20-$40.

Really? That is interesting, I did not know or hear of this. I have been
curious...some folks, rightly or wrongly, seem to be snapping them up, esp.
if a friend or internet acquaintance buys one & posts a favorable testimony.

Here's my data point to contribute...I was at Harbor Freight in Raleigh and
examined two of them at the store side-by-side:

Silver model - had a reinforcement rib running the length UNDER the lift arm...much
like a reinforcement rib seen designed into plastic moldings for things
like fishing tackle boxes, plastic tools boxes, or large plastic storage
boxes...

Blue anodized model - was prettier than the silver model, but did not have the rib!
                      was completely absent.

You can't see the reinforcement rib unless you pick up the jack(s) & look UNDER
the lift arm. Other than that...and the color, they looked identical.

This tells me I should share with list members a warning that they should know Harbor
Freight is not selling a consistent product in their stores...at a minimum.
As to overall quality, I do not know, but it is not consistent product. Question for
Stan or anytone: Any detail(s) on what seems to allegedly fail? (perhaps the
Lift arm or some other part?) Are the alleged failures consistent, somewhat
repeating failure modes? Or just random aluminum fractures (aluminum is notorious
for not giving any warning when it fails...it just usually fails with spectacular
surprise...ask any pro road or mt. bicycle racer who tossed their aluminum frame
bike for Titanium, carbon fiber, or even went back to steel after a pile up or crash).

That says a lot. Just found out they are also sold at Pep Boys and Sears.
Not places I would generally shop for wheels (perhaps that's why I never
noticed them there.) Thanks for the input. Especially from Mr. Byrum. He's

Obviously the silver model has a greater lift capacity. Wasn't the colour
difference discussed recently, on at 3000lb and the other at 4000lb?

Alex says he isn't watching the races due to lack of
BMW content.

I fail to understand this reasoning Alex. A race is a
race, and its merit stands alone. The fact that it
contains no BMWs has absolutely nothing to do with the
excitement of the event. The point of my post was
wondering if anyone else was enjoying the competition
as much as I was. I love all types of racing, I even
enjoy the lawn tractor races that Speedvision
broadcasts occasionally. I am not so narrow minded
that I exclude any race that doesn't contain a BMW.
To each his own I guess.

Cheers
Steve Albrecht

None. This car has had little but oil changes, since new.

My guess is that when he said "one of my cars" he was referring to his E30 325is.
Mine is an E36 325is, so the price for me would likely fall somewhere between the
range you referred to.
Thanks for the tip, Marshall. If it turns out to be nearly that cheap, I will likely
do that. It also provides me the safety net of having brakes on my car if I fail to
complete the rebuild successfully and have to drive it to the shop... :)
