Last week, a car came into our repair shop equipped with this. It certainly
kept the car from starting, but I don't think the range is as high as
advertised - we had to wave it a few times and the sensor wasn't even behind
any plastic.

With the V1 in the windshield mount, pull it as far forward as possible (so it
tips toward the console) and tug a few times. Leave it there for 5-10
minutes.  End of problem.

Uhh, never, I wouldn't do that!
(damn, why don't they put signs like that in around here, sounds like fun!)

DEAD ON. Buy a new suction mount with new suction cups for each car. Way
worth the the money.

Yeah, I know where it's been -- that is why I lick the suction cups ...

Just leave the magnet in the car instead of lugging it around on your key
chain ...

Ah, suction cups. Here in the Commonwealth of VA, no suction cups, only
visor mount as quick takedown is the rule. My V1, always mounted on the
visor, has never failed me. Of course I keep my cell 'phone cord at the
ready as obfuscation.

I found the best way to get mine to stick was to spray the suction cups with
a very light coat of tacky spray used to put pictures in books or posters on
walls.

Never dries and removes easily.

Mine hasn't fallen off in over 2 years of hot summers and very cold winters
since I found the spray.

A few of us are going to get together and just talk about cars on Saturday, Feb. 1st
beginning at 11:00am at the Concord Mills (a mega mall) at exit 49, off I-85 about 20
minutes north of Charlotte, NC. There is no agenda, no competition, just a bunch of
blue and white people getting together to look at the machinery, have lunch and go to
the nearby go-kart track. We'll meet in the front parking lot behind the First
Citizens Bank (take the last mall entrance).

Subject: [uuc] FS/FT: 22ft almost new enclosed trailer

A recent change in our storage situation may be forcing me to downsize my
trailer.

I am looking to trade my 22 ft box + 5 ft (extra long) hitch Haulmark Elite
II
trailer for an alum. open trailer with tire rack and tool storage box. Or
I will sell it outright for 9700.00/

Here is info about the trailer:

* 22 ft box, 5 ft hitch
* AC/DC lighting with deep cycle RV battery.
* Fully finished, lined and insulated interior that keeps cool even at 110
 degree heat.
* Spare tire with cover
* Cabinets, fluorescent interior lighting and halogen exterior lighting
* Winch that runs off the on-board battery that easily pulls an M3 in or
lets it get down smoothly
* dual axle rated to 10K total combined weight.
* dual exterior vents
* extra wide door 48 inches.
* all safety gear including brekaway battery
* Less than 1 year old and 2700 towed miles.
* One small nick on the left side due to tight spacing in a gas station.
* Pit-pal like trailer door cabinet organizer, fuel jug rack and tie wrap
hangers
* 6 D-rings (2 of which are perfect for M3 -tie down
* Dove tail rear

Excellent condition, used from July to November. I get 13-14 mpg towing
this trailer fully loaded.
Only thing it does not have is the tire rack which I did not get around
to putting.

Cool idea. Getting OT, two responses to this thread...

1. My keys and credit cards ride in different pockets, so no problem
there. And Stan is right. In fact, you could just use the magnet
from your hidden spare key. You know, the one you stuck to the
plastic -- to that aluminum -- to your composite -- to that homemade
steel wing you mounted to the trunk! No need to carry your key OR the
magnet.  ;-)

2. My ex-boss told a story of reed switches...
When in college there was a multi-story engineering building with a
service elevator. It was key-operated so that students (presumably)
could not use it for personal 'travel'. Steve disassembled the
control panel when the opportunity arose, and installed a reed switch
behind the faceplate in parallel with the keyswitch on each floor. By
carrying a magnet with him (in a pocket away from his credit card), he
could call the elevator from any floor, enjoy the elevator, and arrive
for lectures slightly less winded than his stair-climbing classmates.

N. Jay
using a first initial as well since there seems to be a proliferation
of fellow digested with the name 'Jay'

Careful. The cops around here (CT) stand behind those "The speed limit is
___ You're going ____" signs, wave you down, and hand out tickets if you
don't slow down.
