This is the brand sold by Stable Energies out of New Jersey. Anyone seen one, or own one? I'd like to know any impressions on quality, fit, finish, etc. How tight is the cage to the body of the car? I'd love to see some E36 pics, if anyone has any. Would someone mind forwarding this message to the club racing list, or let me know how to join that list? Not sure what you mean by this, but I am assuming traction. Either your tires are very bad, bald or something is amiss with the diff. With decent tires, 1st gear is the only gear traction is a problem, then beyond that your problem lies in shifting technique. I have driven several, very hard, and never had that problem. If I found one that did, it would be sitting in my driveway. Mike - -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Kevin T. Clifford Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 8:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] re: "new" 95 540i I just bought a 95 540i 6 spd, green w/ parchment 80k miles. The car runs great but a couple of little things. It already has the Bilstein sport shocks installed. The tires break loose very easy through 3 gear. I'm thinking of upgrading to 18 x 8.5/9.5 M Parallels from Wheel Exchange along with Kumho MX's from Tire Rack. Right now I have the stock 15" mesh wheels with Pirelli P4000. The throw on the shifter seems long. I ordered a UUC short shifter w/ delrin bushings, sealed cartridge bearing and the chromo knob. I am also thinking of putting in a Jim C chip and an IGT air filter. I plan on taking the car to Driver's Ed events as soon as possible. The CD player will cut out after 30 sec of playing a song, no volume but shows track and no error code? Anything I should check? This required standing on an 18" breaker bar to loosen the wheel bolts put on by the tire place I usually use. I went in and asked him if he torqued them to specs as I requested (71 +/- 7 ft. lbs.). He said he put them on at 100 ft. lbs.because he found that wheel bolts back out if he does not do that. I have never had a problem with this shop before and when I checked the bolts on my other car that he worked on they were torqued properly. My BMW rotors show no sign of warping. I have had wheel bolts back out that I had torqued to specs so I retorque wheel nuts after a few weeks of driving. Is it possible that the shop did indeed torque the bolts to 100 ft. lbs. as claimed? Is 100 ft. lbs. excessive? Could it be that the wheel bolts seized? (They are four years old and I never use grease or anti seize on wheel bolts.) Is the most likely answer here that there is an air wrench happy mechanic that does not have an wrench with a torque setting and is too lazy to use a torque wrench? Do I need to go back to watching my wheels installed or do it myself? It is a Denmark based company that invented it. Seems like the rest, gear driven internally using the exit side of a turbo, uses its own oil supply and cooler. Never seen one personally and never seen a positive boost system that is worthy of a modern BMW either, AA included. The wonderful trademark of an amatuer idiot. (that is, someone who isn't smart enough to be a qualified idiot). Unplug the SRS control unit under the rear seat. That will disable the system, and turn off the light in the cluster, without destroying anything. Unplug the traction control unit, located behind the glove box, and that will disable the traction control and turn off the light, without destroying anything. Excellent. If this is a race car, remove the control unit so that it won't get "triggered" in an accident. You can sell it. Remove the wiring if you wish, but I always suggest leaving it where it lies. The weight savings is not worth hacking up a saleable harness. > > Can't imagine why you'd want to permanently disable the traction control, this > > must be an *interesting* project. You may just be glad that you have it on a rainy day at a deadly track like Mid Ohio, that likes nothing better than to spit you off the track in the rain. - ----------------------------------------------------- BMW Special Tool Rentals Pay per incident tech support - ----------------------------------------------------- Brett Anderson KMS (440) 338 1650 www.koalamotorsport.com OSS committee member ------------------------------ End of [uucdigest] V3 #6046 *************************** | | In memory of Michel Potheau - friend, enthusiast, founder of the BMW CCA. |________________________________________ | Please visit these UUC-approved BMW parts vendors/service providers: | (listed alphabetically) | | Autoscope-Motorsports - http://www.autoscope-motorsports.com | |==================================================== | | Koala MotorSport .
