I am wanting to upgrade the suspension on my 325 (e36) to that of it's M3 counterpart.
I was searching the archives of this digest and have not found what I was looking
for. I have heard that the retrofit is not to difficult. Has anyone done this who
would be willing to talk to me about a few concerns that I have?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Mike:

Did you try and get the ECU fault codes? Your car
should have M 1.1 w/ only 4 codes in it.

I suspect the coolant temp sensor. Blue or clear
socket'd sensor on the t-stat housing. Pull up on the
injector electrical rail, use medium socket (17? 19?)
to get it out in and in.

Steve...I understand the reason you designed it the way you did. Aren't
trial lawyers great? They practically destroyed the general aviaition
industry in the 80s. But I for one take personal responsibility for my
actions .... so $100 bucks was way too much in my book. If I promise
not to sue you will you give me discount ;-)

If you want true M3 suspension, you'll need to change your rear control arms.

However, the front struts/knuckles and rear shocks/springs will bolt right in
to your car.

As another option, you can put a simple RC network across the ASC switch
contact. This effectively pushes the switch for you once when the car is
started. You then have to remember to *engage* ASC when desired. This
would be easier than the converse I suppose, since the yellow "donut
enable" light will be lit. --SC

Subject: RE: [uuc] Retrofit M3 suspension to 94 325

Ryan,

I did this exact thing about a 1 and 1/2 years ago. I did the 95 M3 setup
(supposedly SLIGHTLY better than the 96+ M3s). I was able to get a set of 95
Springs, front/rear sway-bars, front struts and rear shocks. I also went with
the M3 front strut bearings, but you don't need to do this. I believe you
should be able to just replace your springs and shocks/struts with M3 ones and
keep the rest of the 325i items. But, doing this, since the M3 has a stiffer
suspension will wear your 325i parts faster. I know the M3 front control arms
are different and beefier than the 325i's. The M3 also has beefier parts in the
rear as well. I believe the differences in the rear are the rear trailing arms,
beefier rear trailing arm bushings, beefier sub frame and beefier bushings there
also.

Since were on this topic, I have a question about the rear trailing arms from an
M3. What advantage does the rear M3 control arms/trailing arms have over the
325i's? (except having more metal). I have a set that I am trying to decide if
I should install them into my 325i in the next few months when I completely redo
my suspension (new H&R OE Sports, Bilsteins, UUC Sways, M3 rear subframe with
ALL new bushings in the rear of the car, and possibly M3 rear trailing arms)

Also, I can't remember off the top of my head, but if I remember correctly from
the parts CD, if you have the sport package on your 325i, that the sway bars are
larger in diameter than the 95 M3s. (I am not 100% positive on this)

Ryan, I will have a few items for sale in the next coming months if your
interested, 95 M3 springs and swaybars. The front struts are shot and are only
good if they are to be gutted.

Hope this helps.

Used too. I lived to ski. Now I race my car. No time for skiing. BTW --
I always RENTED top of the line stuff ;-) I just bought a great pair of
boots and would rent the rest of the equipment.

Ok -- I see where you guys are going. I do own a 9mm Beretta compact. Fine
piece of engineering. Expensive too. Do I use it everyday? No but
sometimes I'd like to ;-)

Andrew,

Rotrex is out of Holland I believe. It is a gear driven, centrifugal type
supercharger. From what I've read they've had many successful applications on
different marques.

We have not listed this car anywhere yet, so you guys get first look. It
is my dad's, and has basically been his summer company car. Therefore,
no hard driving, track, or snow (drives old Land Cruiser in winter). Has
hardly ever even seen rain. Always garaged, non-smoker, Zymol concourse,
yada yada. Blk/blk, and get this only 7100 miles. Absolutely perfect.
Would be looking for something in the mid $50s, will be listed higher in
Roundel, Roadfly etc soon. It is coming off lease in early March, and he
will lease another. I would buy it but I would have to give up my E28
M5, not to mention sell my children, and then wife would leave me, etc.
The car is in Pittsburgh, I would be happy to answer any questions if
there is any interest here. Thanks for the spam-width.

My starter is freezing in the cold weather. It was hard to turn last night
and this morning it would not budge.
I whacked it with a hammer and wooden pole. After that it started
immediately.

Should I interpret this as a consequence of the far sub-freezing
temperatures here, or should I get a new starter?
I see they are not too badly priced out on the web.
