I have a silly question. Will this leave the airbags connected to a
long open circuit, and sensitive to static discharges? Call me
superstitious, but I am the sort who shorts out electrical blasting
caps that shouldn't go off.

I believe the recommended wheel torque was revised from 100 Nm (71 ft
lb) to 120 Nm (85 ft lb). There are rumors of wheel bolts sheering off
at 120 Nm so some use 110 Nm, roughly the value Brett recommends. One
grizzled mechanic said the rumors only applied to FIATs, an
abbreviation for "Fehler In Alle Teile".

Anyway, the word I hear on this side of the big puddle is that either
110 or 120 Nm works fine.

That lift part is pretty funny eh Brett? Anyway, that jack plate only works on E36 M3s
AFAIK. I don't think Brett works on hundreds of E36 M3s every year.

I have a UG jack plate but I rarely use it. Why, because I have been jacking up my
E36 M3 exactly the same way Brett does. It really couldn't be any simpler. The
numbskulls over on the E36 M3 list are arguing about this very topic again (we just
did this thread a week or so ago). I told them the way I did it at that time but only
one person responded to me and he doesn't seem to have much confidence that I know
what I am talking about.

Regards,

Rich - jacks up his E30 and E36 the same way...and it is easy to put them on four jack
stands.

Ryan,
Do yourself a favor and buy decent aftermarket suspension instead.
E36M3 Boge shocks are notoriously fragile and most are worthless after
30-50K miles.
E36M3 front sway bars will not bolt to the non-M3 shock towers which lack
a sway bar link tab on the housing. So to go with M3 setup you would need
to pay for worthless shocks just to gut them with Koni inserts.

It's a direct bolt on.

If you still want ///M3 stuff, I have '95 M3 springs and sway bars
gathering dust in the garage. Make me an offer.
Hack, I will even consider offers for my M3 strut towers with Koni SA
shocks already in them!

I think the original poster was intending to totally remove the bags, but if
not, then the safe way to do it is simply unplug them.

The connector on any of BMWs pyrotechnic devices has a bridge that shorts the
two pins together when unplugged. This prevents misfiring from static
discharge.

As with the ODB, it's "on it's way".....

Finding a reliable machinest is not easy, even though they're all screaming
that there's no work.

ODB should be getting final testing in the next 2 weeks. Jack stand adapters
are much further off.

Jesse,

The 95 M3 swaybars measure 22.5 mm front and 19 mm rear. The 325i/is sport package
has larger front sways, 25.5 mm, but smaller rears, 18 mm. Also, the 325i/is
non-sport has 24 mm front and 15 mm rear sways. Hope that helps!

The M3 bars connect directly to the strut and are therefore stiffer acting
for a given diameter than the 325 bar.

Guys,
This info is deceiving.
M3 sway bars attach to the shock tower casing.
Non-M3 bars (both E30 and E36) attach to the control arm. Thus the deal
with a force transmitted through a far greater lever. So even though they
are physically thicker, they are a lot less effective than M3 bars.
Alas, non-M3s lack the tab on the strut casing and thus can not use front
M3 sway bars.

IIRC, the M3 front sway bar can be smaller and still effectively
stiffer due to its attachment points on the strut housings (vs. the
control arm attachment on the 325).

I forgot about the swaybar link to the front strut. That definetly is the main
difference in the front suspensions.

If you compared a 325i sport/non-sport sway bar to an M3 sway bar, aren't they
the same profile (have all the same bends etc, except for the thickness)? I
thought, and I could definetly be wrong, that they were interchangeable. For
example, taking the 325i sport swaybar and connecting it to a front M3 strut?

Just wondering.. :)

We used a Rotrex supercharger on an M50 as the first engine package in our

Small size is a boon for neat fitment in a crowded BMW engine bay........

Peter Guagenti was telling me this morning that the M3 front kingpins are
different and the M3 has a slightly narrower track (and better turn-in) as a
result.

Anyone swapped M3 kingpins on to a 325?
