I saw these in a store today. According to the drawing on the box there is
now a single metal strip spring molded inside the rubber in place of the old
dual loose springs. Couldn't tell if they refills would fit the old holder
or not.

And I rather belatedly reply that he has indeed had a paying customer (one, as of the
first week of January). Last I heard the shop was up and running and he had been
mostly fixin friends cars until the 'full mark up' people start rolling in. The next
cryptic email I recieve from him I will let you know how the shop is doing. I wholly
intend to visit his shop and maybe he and I can BC a LSD install. I'll keep y'all
posted :)

You can ship wheels FedEx ground without boxes.
All you have to do is figure out a way to securly
mount an address label. That's it. They do charge
you $5 surcharge (each) for not having a box. I
believe UPS has the same surcharge. Overall I've
found FedEx Ground rates cheaper hand UPS. And
the people are friendlier too.

FedEx takes cash or major credit cards without
blinking.

Subject: [uuc] 633: euro vs US cams

In the ongoing saga of my non internet friend and his 633 refurbishment:
He's working on a 78 euro 633...with a bad head. He got a head off a US
530i for a replacement. He says the cams have identical (long) part
numbers but on the back of one cam there is a "1" stamped and the other
has a "2". He says the cams look a little different. Anyone know if
they are really different?

Ok, no luck the first time...try, try again.

My front seat on my '92 525i is starting to creak under spirited cornering.

Any usual suspects other than the mounting hardware?

What's the disassembly method to look at the seat guts?

Just FYI, both UPS and FedEx say they'll charge the $5 for non standard
packing but when I brought mine to the drop off, with just the
cardboard donuts on each side, no surcharge was applied. I think it's
up the guy checking in your packages to determine if it's non standard.

The new refills have a much thicker cross section through the
encapsulated metal area, the part that has to fit through the mounting
feet (for lack of a better term), and will not fit in the old style
blade. Of a more important note, at least on the size I had to buy for
my Miata, the new so called improved blade impressed me as basically
being cheaper for them to make. It had 2 fewer mounting feet per side
which would seem to me to not provide as even of a contact pressure of
the blade on the window, so don't throw away your old bosch wipers for
the new ones until you get to check them out in the size that's going to
be going on your car.

I tried 3 auto parts stores and the Mazda dealer with no luck looking
for the old refills, I finally had to break down an buy the new ones but
I'm keeping the old ones should the old refills become more readily
available again.

Ronal is the OEM for AC Schnitzer, Alpina and one or two other specialist
makes - the quality is second to none and they are generally light in
weight.

Rondell makes mostly BMW knock-offs, as well as some of their own designs.
Cheap, but heavy, as Alex F attests.

I realize this has been discussed before... but I need to ship wheels

I'm
planning on wrapping them with those cardboard circles (like Tire Rack
does)... but where do I get these wrapped (plastic bands), what's the
lowest
cost option I have, etc.

Any comments appreciated.

>>>>>>>>>>

I've shipped several sets and I just use the plastic tape we use to tape
up boxes for UPS shipping. I put several wrappings so its nearly
completely covered and I've never had a problem. If you know someone
that ships heavy stuff regularly they might have one of those plastic
strapping deals that use a wire or metal piece that locks or crimps the
plastic for a tight hold.

Any ideas on what might be the offending part(s) to look at?

I want to order some oil filters from BMP for the wife's 540 but they only
list up to model year 2000. Anyone know if the 2001 540s use the same
filter as the 99-00?

thanks

the ETK lists the same part number after 9/98.

Just for clarification then, my last post about Bosch Wipers specifically mentions
that they are for the refills (two rubber strips per pack).

They are still available through BMW parts departments and World Wide Auto Parts
(http://www.nosimport.com) at 800-362-1025. It sounds like they have most of the
refills in stock when I called yesterday.
