I have found FedEx to cost less than UPS in almost every case when shipping wheels.

Wheels with tires mounted on them are easily shipped with some bubble wrap taped to
the face of the wheel and two cardboard circles to protect the face of the wheel and
one cardboard circle on the back side. Use duct tape to keep the cardboard in place
(rather than the plastic ties that Tire Rack uses since it is cheap and readily
available). You don't want to exceed 75 lbs per package so with tires mounted, most
wheel/tire combinations have be shipped individually as two wheel/tire combinations
will typically exceed 75 lbs. unless they are of the smaller variety. In that case,
it is more cost efficient to strap two wheel/tire combinations together.

Sometimes UPS and FedEx charge an extra $5 fee for each unboxed item, sometimes they
don't. I have average 50/50 on them charging it.

Works for me.

Rich

someone a ways back was looking for a way to disable ASC on start up. I
stumbled across this looking up some other stuff. Amazingly simple and
cheap mod.

maybe he and I can BC a LSD install. I'll keep y'all

Jim,

Good to hear about Fuerst (thanks for the update) although if he's not careful
the freebie's for family (loosely defined) will sink him if he's not careful
<g>.

Speaking for rememberances, I laughed yesterday at seeing the new Jaque ala
Carton (Jack in the Box) commercial. The "transformed" guy with the mullet
reminded me of the long ago thread (can't remember if it was on the Welty forum)
about mullets which also made me laugh my a** off. This community is probably
the best digest on the web from many different angles. OK, OK I'm waxing
nostalgic, sniff sniff, so sue me.... just kidding Ed.

Huh? Why would they only fit the E6 M3? According to the Ultimate Garage
website they fit the E36 chassis and the E38 chassis.

This was posted on the forum a while ago - does this help? I have a similar
issue on my std. 535 seats. Haven't had time to try the procedure...this
spring I suppose.

It seems that this is a standard BMW problem. It is a known issue in the
e34, and I heard about it in e36 as well. I've copied below the best info I
have on it.

Hey Bret, do you rent special tool (88-88-6-521-200, $29.75)? If I knew if
would fix my problem, I would buy it, and share it with anybody that needs
it.

I have not had the time to bother with my seats yet, but maybe after I move
into my new 2-car garage, with attached house, I will be able to. HTH

Almost a year ago, Herman Chan wrote:

The "shifty seat" syndrome is not uncommon to the manual E36 seats
(both sport and non-sport); from the statement above, it appears that
the power seats can have similar problems. I've experienced this
problem in both my '92 coupe and a friend's '95 coupe.

In my car, it manifests itself as a slight shift when the car changes
pitch or rounds certain turns. Mine is felt only as unwanted
movement and isn't accompanied by any noises. Keeping the seat in
the lowest height adjustment position will minimize, but not entirely
eliminate the problem. It's much more noticeable when the seat is
set at a higher position and not wedged in place as it is when at the
bottom of the height travel.

While others with similar complaints have had their lower seat frames
replaced under warranty (only to have the problem return eventually),
my complaint to the dealer yielded only an "it's normal" response,
claiming that even the new cars on the showroom floor exhibited
similar behavior.

My own investigation reveals that the cause of the problem is excess
play in the plastic bushings that guide the seat bottom slider rails
(not the seat tracks on the floor which allow fore/aft adjustment).
Manipulating the seat (by applying fore/aft pressure to the seatback)
while observing from outside the car makes the cause quite apparent.

For the coupe seats, these rails allow the seat bottom cushion to
move up and forward when the seatback is tilted forward to allow
passenger access to the rear seats. While I haven't examined a sedan
to confirm, I'm assuming that the sedan seats share a similar design,
if only as part of the seat height adjustment mechanism.

On my car, the inboard bushing has too much play, allowing the seat
to rock diagonally. If both bushings are loose, I can envision the
seat shifting in both the longitudinal and lateral directions.

Until recently, I thought the only cure would be replacement of the
entire seat frame, since the bushings are riveted to the frame and
not available as a separate part. But even this remedy would be
vulnerable to a recurrence, since it doesn't address the design
weakness which is the cause of the problem.

However, while perusing the TIS, I came upon a TSB which may offer a
solution.

BMW issued a bulletin in 1/92 addressing "Looseness or Play in Front
Seat." The fix involves removing the bottom cushion and using a
special tool (88-88-6-521-200, $29.75) to remove the excess play in
the slider rail bushings. Apparently, anything over 0.05 mm play is
considered excessive.

Although it doesn't address coupe seats directly, it's apparent that
the design of the sedan seat mechanism is similar, if not identical.
The power seat mechanisms are probably also similar.

Whoops, did I say that. My bad. I knew that they fit all E36s (didn't know about the
E38s though).

My apologies and thank you for pointing out my error. I still don't think Brett works
on hundreds of E36s and E38s a year but I have been wrong before...

Alex,

Kevin was referring to Rondell not Ronal. That said, I've had good
experiences with Gary at Ronal Wheels. Of course, I was never in a
hurry when I ordered wheels. My 15x7.5 wheels weigh about 16 lbs. Not
light, but not the 20+ lbs you find in many aftermarket wheels. I think
that 15x7 Revolutions are touted as "lightweight" but they weigh about
15 lbs.
