Craig,

I'm going to guess that all E32's are similar. There are a set of screws behind
a trim piece in the door pull and I think in the arm rest (it's been a while)
remove these. Remove the latch button by unscrewing it. Remove the wiring from
the switch for the mirrors and the lower courtesy light. Then pop out all of the
trim buttons along the side of the panel but don't yank on the panel just yet.
The trick is to reach in under the panel and feel for a stud which is on the
panel and fits into a plastic retainer in the door frame. Hold the retainer in
place which you lift the stud out of the slide on this retainer. The panel
should now come off (with some persuasion).
Putting it back in place is the reverse with particular care on the panel stud
and retainer first.

I broke a Craftsman torque wrench that I'd had for years and years -
probably well over 20 years. I took it to the Sears near Summit Point and
asked for a new one. The guy looked at it and said they didn't have that
model any more and brought out a different one. I looked at it and pointed
out the scale wasn't really the same. He got me the next more expensive one
and we made the trade. After getting back home with it after the weekend I
looked at the warranty and was pissed that I'd traded a lifetime warranted
wrench for a limited warranty. I went to my tool box to get the paperwork
on the original and saw that it too was limited and very fully expired. :-)

Don,

The drone is normal. I've got it too, right at 2000 RPM, but nowhere else. Its not
related to your
drip! But I still love the exhaust!

don't really see how I could adjust the connections. Do you suppose the drone and drip

Come to think of it, I wish my drone was at 2k, I'm in that range much less often than
3k.

FWIW I put the Rogue exhaust on my M3, and it had the same kind of
2000 RPM drone until I installed the silencer tip inserts. The
neighbors have stopped complaining and I think it sounds just
about right now. But then I am getting old(er). 8^)

The sound of the TSE (and all UUC exhausts) definitely changes after the
500-1500 mile break-in period. The harder you use it, the quicker and
better it will settle down.

Your drip should not be happening... check the replaceable donut gasket on
one side, and make sure everything is tight. A good seal should be easy to
achieve.

I've had people ask me about the Honda-style "silencer inserts" they see on
systems designed for Japanese cars (mostly interested for the
more-aggressive System*U). I almost can't believe my ears... adding
restriction to reduce sound volume is contradictory to the entire idea of a
performance exhaust. That kind of system with "silencer inserts" is
designed for someone who might have been better off with some add-on chrome
tips for the original exhaust.

But anyway, use it hard - I think the break-in will surprise you as it
almost seems to happen overnight.

I've broken my Snap-On. Twice. No abuse, normal use.

Subject: [uuc] Fan out

I know it's too early to be concerned with AC and not cold enough here in So Cal to
worry about the heater but I think the fan just went kaput on my E36 323is. It first
started acting up by revving real high intermittently (had the AC on auto) and then
settle down. This went on for a couple of weeks and then yesterday it just won't turn
on either in the heater or AC mode. I checked the fuses and they all looked ok. Do I
just RR the fan? Any other thing I should look at first before I venture into this
uncharted (for me) territory?

Subject: [uuc] E38 740iL purchase Qs...

Hi Guys,

I am contemplating the purchase of a 1997-00 740iL and would like any
insights into this car. I am specifically looking for any major issues that
I need to look into. What options are good on this car and which ones are
not really worth it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Vijay

"This morning, I saw a new C-class badged C230 Kompressor.....brand new in

Did I miss the fact that they were making these somewhere along the
line?"

Mercedes recently revamped its four-cyl petrol engine line, replacing its
universally coarse (if game) four-cylinder range with a greatly improved
balance-shaft four. UK price lists show a C180K and a C200K (which,
unfashionably, actually have 1.8 and 2.0 engines). These motors have been
very well received on the basis of their performance, economy and poise,
although in these installations the supercharger is light-pressure and aimed
at increasing driveability rather than outright power. Assuming Mercedes
updated the 2.3 litre motor also, I would not be surprised if they
introduced this as a US-market entry-level four-pot.

According to www.mbusa.com, the C230 Kompressor has a fashionably 1.8
litre motor, with 189@5800 HP and 192@3500 lb-ft torque. A 6-speed
manual tranny is standard.
