With all the different lists you crossposted to, I couldn't tell what sort
of car you need these lug bolts for. If it's a BMW (not a Porsche), I
think they take 12mm x 1.5 thread pitch, cone seat lug bolts. You can get
them from the Ultimate Garage, TireRack, maybe Turner Motorsports, or you
can just go to your local wheel/tire store and buy them there. They aren't
exactly difficult items to find...

Vijay,

Depending on your tastes definitely get the sports seats (they have the
articulating upper shoulder section).

Ping, if you have analog HVAC controls, try the fan switch on the highest
setting. If it works on the highest setting but not lower settings, the
problem is the ballast resistor pack. I don't know how to replace the
resistor pack on the E36, but it is pretty easy on the E30 (does not
require too much swearing).

If you have the fancy schmancy automatic climate control system, then I
don't even know if it uses a resistor pack. And if the fan does not work
on ANY speed, then further diagnostics would be in order. If power is
getting to the fan itself but the fan does not turn, then replace the fan.
If no power gets to the fan, then trace the circuit backwards to the
switch, etc. A VOM would be handy for this work.

Is it still 90 deg F down south?

I'm about to purchase a JC chip for my 95 M3. All engine and exhaust
components are stock. However I did plan to upgrade in the future. My
question is, will I have to purchase a new chip when I upgrade to a new
exhaust, Intake and so on?

Thanks in advance

By the way,

I have a line one of these motors out of the early Euro E36 M3's. 286HP,
Single fully-adjustable VANOS, six throttle bodies and so forth. Complete
with ECU, VANOS controller, RHD wiring harness, alternator, plenum... 64K
miles. It is from a salvage car that was running before being stripped.

For US use, it would need a LHD wiring harness - or if your comfortable in
moving over the ECU connections, you could cut and splice extensions on.

$6000 + shipping. I also have a matching 5-speed M3 tranny available.

email me if your interested.

14mm?? BMWs generally use 12mm.

Of course you don't say which BMW, or even if it is a BMW, so that's going
to make it harder for you to get useful advice.

Other than that, longer lug bolts can be found at just about any BMW
performance shop, for instance Turner Motorsport.

for a BMW. Going to buy used and current either, like 95 thru 00 years. I am
new to BMW with auto transmissions, so here are my questions. What cars came
with auto trans that I should stay away from? Are there any good model trans
I should look for?

Thanks,

Subject: [uuc] euro 3.0l or 3.2l headers on US motors ?

with all this talk of euro motors, it got me thinking. are the headers
from a euro 3.0l or 3.2l motor a useful upgrade for a US M50-based motor
in the 2.5/2.8/3.0/3.2l (non-M54) flavors ?

I know of at least one person who has put them onto an early M50, so I
know they fit, but wondered how they would compare to other aftermarket
headers which are available - Supersprint, Motorsport, etc. - for E36
M3's. anyone have any experience ?

Subject: [uuc] E36 Tranny Troubles

Hello group,

Some time ago I was looking for advice on the problem I was having with
the transmission in my '94 325i. This issue was (and still is) that
when the transmission is cold, the shifter hangs up in the neutral
position under fifth gear, without springing back like normal. The
problem goes away when the tranny warms up. The only advice I got was
to replace the tension bushing, which I did, but this did not help.

Well, in the February Roundel there is an article describing two issues
with E36 boxes. It lists popping out of 1st and 2nd under load, and
then my problem. It goes on to describe how to address it, which
involves removing and emery-clothing a sleeve of some sort that is
accessible from the passenger side of the transmission so that it
doesn't bind. The funny part is that the article describes the 1st
problem as afflicting all E36's except M3s and 328s, and my problem as
affecting only the M3s and 328s, which mine obviously is not.

Anyway, I know there were other people on the list experiencing the same
issue, so I wanted to get this info out in case it was missed in the
Roundel. When I get around to trying the fix on mine I'll post the
results. I'm not sure when that will be, considering the weather in
Michigan these days. If you want a copy of the Roundel article, reply
privately and I'll help you out.

Chris Baker
