I was thinking shocks too, but didn't want to overload you with advice on how to spend more money! Your 95 has the same mileage as my 96, and my car has been quite reliable, despite a lot of track time. Another Digester mentioned that a radiator replacement would run around $700 including labour. I'm sure this is correct if paying full list price (around $350 I think) at the dealer. However the radiator is readily available for under $200 from the usual sources if required, and it's an easy enough job. I have a nice all aluminum radiator sitting in my garage waiting for installation, but that's a bit pricier. The E36 M3 is a wonderful daily driver, and without any modification still performs better than most other cars on the road. (And this from me, with a highly modified M3...) Backing up in a parking lot, she contacted the driver's (left) side bumper/wheel against another car (rear). After the impact, the steering wheel was 90 degrees out of phase (arm perpendicular rather than parallel to the ground). I inspected the area after removing the wheels and there does not appear to be any obviously damaged components. When returning the car to the ground with the steering wheel pointed straight ahead, the left wheel is pointed inboard (way too much castor?). FWIW, this is the same car that I posted last week with he continuing shimmy following a balance job. I've since rotated and torque the wheels to 60 N-m (I used anti seize). Also, this car has had both torque arms replaced. Can anyone provide some clues as to what may have been broken. Cheers, Roland ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 08:46:39 -0600 From: "Tolsdorf, Geoffrey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] No FM Radio Reception when Cold All, I need some help from the electronic gurus on the board. My '95 M3 has the stock radio and is exhibiting a strange behavior. When the air temp is cold (<40), I loose the FM radio reception (AM, WB, tape and CD all work fine). Once the car warms up, it will crackle in and out until it finally "fixes" itself. But as soon as it cools off, it goes away. Sometimes a thump to the side of the dash, or a big bump will restore it. I suspect the antenna booster but it could be a circuit board issue as well. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks for the help. Must've been one hell of an impact 'cause as small as they are, they're strong. Looking at your description though, something doesn't make sense. If she was backing out of a space, and hit another car with her left wheel, she must have been turned to the right. The tie rods are attached to the rear of the strut assembly, so the left tie rod would have been extended towards the car she hit. If it then bent, you would have toe out on that wheel, not toe in. That would make the left wheel turn outwards, not inwards.... Sure she's being accurate with her description of what happened? Either way, my bet is you've found the source of your shimmy, and it's in bad front end components. - ----------------------------------------------------- BMW Special Tool Rentals Pay per incident tech support - ----------------------------------------------------- Brett Anderson KMS (440) 338 1650 www.koalamotorsport.com OSS committee member - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beaudette, Roland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Well just as I was about to get around to some more mechanical maintenance, > my wife has what we thought was a minor fender bender. The difference is I realized that since he was guessing at the names of the alignment specs he could have meant that he now has large positive camber on that wheel. i.e., the lower control arm may have let go in some odd way so that the entire strut is pushed up under the car at the bottom. Note that that would also cause toe-in. Geeeze From: "KMS - Brett Anderson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > That would be toe, and it sounds like she bent a tie rod. A thump to the dash should have little affect on it. I'd check my antenna connections at the rear of the radio, and swap the radio with a known good unit. I have one, if you are near Baltimore. Does using the rear window defrost have any effect? Hello all, Sorry for the interruption, but after many requests for this wheel, I have gotten Kosei to make 40-60 more wheels! However, in order to have them here by mid-march, we would have to place the order by this Friday. So, how many of you want the 17x8.5 Kosei K1 Racing wheel in 17x8.5. We have two sets for one of our cars and they are awesome - light (~16-17lbs), strong, easy to clean, etc. oh, and cheap! We will be able to get these for racers for $200 per wheel. Please let me know ASAP as Kosei is reluctantly doing this as I convinced them that the BMW racing community really wanted this wheel! Thanks Brad Bradley J. They are slightly blue but that's due to their actual color temp, not tinting. I was going to buy an HID upgrade for my truck but tried the silverstar first. I was amazed. Probably 80% of the benefits for an HID upgrade at 10% of the cost.
