The Osram Silver Stars are different than the Sylvania's, as I found out
after I bought the Sylvania's (which are still much better than regular
bulbs). The Osrams are cheaper, brighter, and have less blue tinting
than the Sylvania's but the Sylvania's appear whiter because of the
tinting (which costs a little in the brightness dept). That being said
you have to mail order the Osrams as local stores are not likely to
stock them since they are basically the European production bulb, but
Phillips Vision Plus might be more readily available and equal to the
Osrams.

Subject: Re: [uuc] E36 Rear Center Console

I have one in the basement. It hold tissues, and two cupholders and
lives behind the current console in an E36 from the rear of the existing
console to the front of the rear seat. I is not as wide as it appears in
the diagram.

It takes odd sized tissue boxes and won't fit it you have the flop down
armrest installed in the car (those armrests must extend farther back).

Ofset is ET40.

They are VERY strong. I unfortunately know as I tested them! ;^(

They would be great one lap wheels - strong and light!

Thanks

Neil,

They'll only fit the front wheels of your MCoupe, offset wise. May not fit
width wise, but probably will.

I get the radio buzz, but only on AM w/ the rear window defrost. AM
reception is semi-poor anyway but really craps w/ the rear defrost. This is
for a'97 528, low ball stock radio.
Thanks

No, "tired" rods..... get it.

OK I'll shut up now.
(seriously you might want to check the steering box bolts or the coupler on the

Subject: [uuc] S14 Engine and Tranny for sale (complete), plus misc. parts and pieces

<sorry if this comes through twice. Sent it last night and haven't seen it yet>

Folks,

I've got my S14 2.5 Engine, harness, tranny and related accessories up for
sale out of my street car. I'd like to sell the engine/harness/ecu/tranny
as a set with a discount - but will part out if folks are strongly
interested in one piece or another.

The engine work was performed by Bavarian Motors Ltd (Phoenix) - one of the
most reputable S14 shops out West.

Engine:
S14 2.5L Built 13K miles (and 14 months) ago.
Rebuild consisted of:
2.5 Factory Crank
Wiseco 2.5L Piston Set
Stage 2 head work - gasket matched and polished
Evo II Intake cam - stock exhaust cam
All the wear parts replaced at the rebuild: timing chain, tensioners,
stretch bolts, oil pump, sprockets, water pump, oil pump chain....
New exhaust valves
Total seal rings
And more - I have the details and can fax to anyone interested.
Engine also includes: Alternator (new bracket and bushings), Power Steering
Pump, Motor Mounts, Factory Exhaust header (new gaskets & some studs 11K
miles ago) and Turner Oil-pan baffle kit (installed) and EvoIII Airbox/intake.
Freshly powder-coated intake plenum and valve cover - looks new!

The pistons have just been re-ringed due to one ring not having sealed up
completely when the engine was built.

I have oil analysis reports showing engine state and break-in over five oil
changes - no abnormal wear or issues.

Used S14 5 Speed overdrive tranny (complete) 180K miles - works good, no
issues/grinding
Evo II Lightweight Flywheel (13K miles)
Factory clutch (13K miles)

ECU with Turner/Jim C 2.5 chip and factory chip (ICV transistors replaced).

Complete early engine harness, less purge relay valve wires.

**************

Basically, I have a complete working mildly modified S14 2.5L engine,
tranny, harness and like for sale. Everything you would need to drop into a
racing shell or street car.

Pictures available on request.

Asking $9000 or best offer for everything above + freight (or you can pick
it up in Phoenix at the club race at the end of the month).

Also for sale:

E30 M3 4.10 Rear-Diff with LS - 180K miles. Still works good - Clutch pack
worn (no surprise with 180K miles) - no grinding or excess play. Big-Six
Axle stubs installed - not E30 M3 stubs. $350 obo + shipping. Pictures
available.

Used factory 48mm throttle bodies (not bored out stock throttles) and
intake horns - $1500 obo + shipping. Pictures available.

Westach Analog Air/Fuel Ratio meter and mount - gives you a gross idea if
the engine is lean or rich and if it's properly dithering - $50 + shipping.
Plugs into ECU harness with taps on three wires. Pictures available.

New E30 M3 Air Conditioning Compressor - three months old and still shiny.
$500 obo + shipping. Pictures available.

Two Bilstein HD B36-2028 rear shocks (15K miles) - $100 obo + shipping.
Pictures available.

Four 16x7.5" DP Reflex Wheels 5-120 +37 in Silver - $100 + shipping (one
wheel has a good dent in the rim lip) - Works fine - good for track use or
street if you don't mind the dent.. I used these for six months before
going to E36 wheels. Pictures available.

HID Light kit for E30 - uses H4 lamp reflectors and plugs into factory
wiring harness - no splicing or modifications required. Includes: HID
bulbs, ignitors, ballasts, wiring harness, H4 adaptors. $300 + shipping.

E30 M3 Aluminum Group A replica race radiator - less than a year old and in
excellent shape. Double-core, works great in Phoenix Summer temps keeping
the engine cool. Much more effective than the factory radiator. If you
race, you deserve one of these. You can still use your mechanical fan. No
modifications to use - uses factory mounts/brackets. $450 + shipping.
Pictures available.

Stock catalytic converter center section. Heat Shields removed (they
cracked and rattled). Just passed emissions with these cats on the engine
above five months ago - without any changes. $600 obo + shipping

what are ya gonna do? Seems that someone else wants it a bit worse than I do
though...

Subject: [uuc] E28 M5 stalls below 2500rpm

vehicle : '88 M5, just turned over 200k this morning.

symptom : car stalls when rpms are below 2500.

problem first presented itself this morning on the way to work. outdoor temps
were around 5-9F, car is parked outside at night. when starting out on the
drive to work, car didn't want to smoothly accelerate thru ~1k-2k rpm. because
this had happened once before (and had gone away after a few minutes of holding
the car at ~1.2k or with driving for a few minutes) and because the problem went
away approx 20 miles into the 30 mile commute, I figured it would be fine this
evening. however on the drive home (slightly warmer, around 14 or so, car
sitting for ~11hrs) it didn't.

because the car runs fine over 3k rpm (from 2.5-3k hesitates a bit when off
throttle, fine above that) I don't think it's spark plug wires or fuel supply.
I seem to recall something about temp sensors being able to cause goofy things
to happen & the fact that the problem goes away after time (when things would
have heated up/loosened up/etc). according to the ETK, there are 3 temp sensors
on the car, one for high (120 C I believe based on the supplemental info in the
ETK) one for sending (to the gauge I believe) & one with some sort of timer
function - ETK says 35CEL 8S which I'm guessing means 35C and 8 seconds, but
I'm just guessing so I could be wrong.

tho the temp gauge showed the correct temp on the way in this morning & moved to
the normal range (a bit below straight up) in a reasonable amount of time given
the ambient temps - I think it moved before the problem went away. however, on
the way home tonight, it did not, staying no more than the width of the blue low
range mark from the low end.

all the coolant hoses (except that impossible to reach one between the motor &
the firewall), water pump, radiator & thermostat were all replaced last winter.

what should I try to check/replace first ?

Ben
borrowing Carlos' GTi for the time being...
