My front wheels are balanced on the car. It's been far better than
any Hunter has even done for me. My steering wheel was absolutely
rock solid on my trip from DC to Keystone CO last summer. So
noticeably accurate that when I need needed a valve stem replaced on
one of my tires in Ohio on the way home, I felt a slight shimmy from
the wheel being remounted on the hub in a different position. Of
course once I hit a pot hole, any balance goes out the window.

It has sure helped me driving in the snow this year.
Just tonight I applied brakes, started skidding, relaxed off the
brakes to regain steering control, looked where I wanted to be.
Gently got back on course. No panic at all.

Looking forward to VIR. This winter in the DC area has gone on long enough.
Oh, my number one goal for every driving school is to drive the car
home. I need to get to work with it on Monday. Last event in pouring
rain I had a ball. It's not often I get to pass E46 M3s. :)

Gentlemen,

I have had experiences with Lightnings both on the highways and one in particular
during last year's One Lap. The One Lap vehicle was very capable indeed, having been
worked to over 500 hp. In the hands of a capable driver it can be formidable in
competition.

On the highway, I had to work fairly hard to best a stock Lightning, going beyond 140
to get him to realize my car wasn't the typical old man's ride. A Lightning may not
be my cup of tea as a performance vehicle, probably because I don't think of
F-Series pick-up trucks as performance vehicles, but I have developed some respect for
them.

Regards,

Simeon

Brett,

Most of those who posted on that thread own Lightnings. The particular
gentleman you quote owns a 2002 Lightning which off the showroom floor
pulls .85 g on the skidpad. That doesn't look so bad next to an '02 M3
which pulls about .90. Throw in the facts that the Lightning also
makes 380 hp and 450 ft-lb stock and that truck is capable of embarrassing
a lot of cars on a road course. Considering it stickers for about $14K
less than the M3 and can carry a full sheet of plywoood, yeah, there
_is_ a performance vehicle.

At a Gingerman lapping day there was a person there with one of those
F150s there and he was smokin' everyone in the newbie run group. It
was a scary group as most were autoxers, I ran with the club racers
(SCCA, Viper club, Porsche club) and they weren't any better (safety
wise). There was at least one car being pulled out of a sand trap
every other session and I had about 3-4 cars go off in front of me,
yikes...

very clean set of stock wheels for E28 M5, they also happen to fit over the
brakes on E34's as they're specificed as winter wheels in the ETK.

Interesting. There's a list whose archives I haven't
searched through yet! There goes another 12 hours of

Heya gang,
I've just been granted an internship with the Helsinki University of
Technology for this summer. I've done plenty of travelling
previously, but never to a Scandinavian country. I was wondering if
anyone on this list has travelled there or lives near there that
could give me some advice on the country.

I'm already familiar with the weather patterns and the lack of a real
"night" in the summer-time, but I am completely unfamiliar with the
cultural expectations and cues.

Is there a BMW club there maybe? Too bad I wont have a car :)

Thanks for the bandwidth guys.

He's worth knowing.

I totally agree with Mike below. Please do not let the picture of the Lambo, or my
first words hinder anyone, or prevent them from visiting a track. BMWCCA schools are
much better places to learn your car, and the abilities of yourself and the car than
any street I have ever found.

I used to think going bat outta hell through the Georgia mountains was fun, but
compared to relative safety you have at a real track, then there is no comparision.
Go off a mountain, you are perhaps lucky to ever be found. Go off track, you will be
found, you have corner workers and safety crews to assist. No comparision.

And, as other have stated, you will become a better street driver.

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/27/03 02:06PM >>>
But on the other hand, if you have never been in a drivers school, DO NOT
let stuff like this persuade you to not do one.

I have never seen a beginner student total a car and I cannot even think of
when a beginner had a wreck either. Your speeds are low and you will be
nowhere near the limits of the car etc on your first weekend.

95% of all wrecks at schools happen to higher level students/instructors who
have gotten to the point where they are really pushing it, run out of
talent, out of balls or over drive the car.

I promise you that Lambo wrecked because the guy came over the hill,
panicked when he was not where he thought he should be, lifted the throttle
and spun.

As a beginner, you will learn so much about the car and yourself, you will
have regretted not doing it the minute you had a drivers license. It is
your choice to keep doing schools and reach the level where a dedicated
track car might be a better choice, but for the first few weekends, a stock
BMW is the perfect car and you will learn tons of important skills to apply
to everyday driving.

Instructs for peachtree aswell
