We had heavy rain here yesterday, followed by a large temperature drop. The indicated temperature this morning was 14F. The driver's door (1999 323is) opened OK, but something in the mechanism froze on contact and the door wouldn't latch shut despite repeated tries, causing the cabin lights to stay on. There were three lights I could see, one over the rearview mirror and one each in the C-pillars. Only the first seems to have a switch, but that switch did nothing. Is there a switch (other than the one on the door frame) that allows me to completely turn off all cabin lights? Or do I have to pull a fuse? Thanks all! I drove 2.5 yrs in MI with the 88 iS (LSD) and 89 iC (open). The iS broke the back end loose very easily since when 1 wheel lost traction, the other one followed. The breakaway was very slow though and not at all difficult to catch. The iC, OTOH, just spun the one wheel, but the car tracked predictably. Mine almost doesn't feel like a BMW, does yours? This one is waay different than my previous and current other Bimmers." Tom: I don't have nearly the Bimmer resume that you do, but I have never found my car's steering to be loose and uncommunicative or unresponsive. In fact, I think it drives really well with good steering feedback and responsiveness. Lots of other E34 owners have complained, but I am either insensitive and undemanding (don't think so) or my car is more tight than others. I keep an eye on the bushings and many have been replaced with new OE. Upper steering links (I think that's the term) are NOT the upgraded parts from the 740. I am running Firestone snows right now, Dunlop sp5000 in the summer. As a point of reference, I just test drove a new '03 540i6, and did not find the steering in my car to be noticeably impaired on back-to-back comparison (though the E39 *did* have a "bit more" torque, and its shifter seemed quite a bit looser than the nice UUC upgrade in my car). A couple of thoughts: I'm presuming your shocks are in spec. You might want to check the rear suspension; I had the diff carrier mounts changed recently and that made handling a lot tighter. Also, maybe do the 740 bushing swap mentioned above. And, is there someone local you could swap tires with, just to rule them out? Jon 92 535i5sp 99K and counting. I was told that there might be a unit, and might not be, and to look under the hood for a control unit. Well I was thinking I would take a look that weekend, and then the following morning I was on my way to work, and looked down at my dashboard, and noticed the ABS warning light was on. This told me that I must have abs if the light was on. There was snow on the ground, and when I came to a stop, the pedal started to vibrate, consistant with ABS braking. This is the first time that happened. A few hours later, the light was off, and the car hasnt done this since. The tires have locked up a few times in the snow since and no pedal vibration. I have not changed, unplugged, or done anything to the relays. I have also not done anything to the brakes after the light came on and then mysteriously disappeared. Any ideas why the light would have come on all of a sudden out of the blue, and at the same time why the system started working?. I would have guessed that the ABS warning light would come on in a malfunction, not when the system suddenly started to work. Anyway.. Now, back to the way it used to be when I got the car. No light, no ABS functionality.. Any suggestions? I think the switch for the light above the mirror should've bypass the open door. Besides pulling a fuse, you could just wait. The car has a feature where if you leave the door open long enough, the lights would just turn off by themselve (I guess it's for battery saving purposes). Does the V1 allow you to change the sensitivity of the laser circuit separate from the radar circuits? I think it would be useful in telling you to get ready to pull over and take out your license. The National Motorists Association may have a list of police agencies using laser.
